Beauty Tues: VIP Hair-formation with Stylist Chad Norris of Rouge Salon in Johnson City, TN

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to Beauty Tues.

This week’s Beauty Tues News is all about the VIP’s hair transformation–or as I like to call it–hair-formation *wink*

Since my move to Johnson City, Tennessee, I have been searching for a hair stylist that knew how to properly cut my curly hair–and after having such fabulous stylists in Starkville (MS) and Birmingham (AL), I was so afraid to branch out and find a new one here…I was having attachment issues *wink* I even threatened to drive six to nine hours just to get a trim–No, I am not kidding *wink* Thankfully, I did not have to go on such an excursion because one of my sweet neighbors recommended Rouge Salon, which is not only a hair salon but also an art gallery–how cool is that?!

I called Rouge and asked if they had a stylist who could achieve the Cob (curly bob), and Angela Montgomery recommended Chad Norris because he cuts her hair–and she has curly hair. BINGO. That was exactly what I needed–a stylist with knowledge of how to cut curly hair…close by…

VIP Hair Tip: For all my curly-headed sisters out there–if you are looking for a new hair stylist, remember the best things to do are research the salon/stylist and ask questions. Pick their brains to see if they actually know how to cut curly hair because it is very different from cutting straight hair. I have walked out of salons before with a total hair disaster because I did not research or ask questions on the front end. No lesson like a hard lesson.

Now, without further ado, let’s take a look at the photo story of the VIP’s hair-formation with the terrifically talented Chad Norris…

Snip! Snip! Snip! Bye-bye mid-length curls and hello Cob!

Chad Norris' way of cutting was a tad bit unorthodox, but it worked fabulously! This technique gave my hair a unique texture with layers that flow perfectly!

I have never had my hair cut this way–but this technique worked perfectly–and made me feel like a big celeb *wink*

Beauty Tues: Curly Hair Tips from Angela Watson Salon of Salon Suites

unnamed (11)

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

This week on Beauty Tues, I am going to share the fabulous curly hair tips that Angela Watson of Angela Watson Salon gave the VIP at the grand opening of Salon Suites! Now, let’s not lollygag and chit chat–let’s get down to the curly hair talk!

unnamed (18)

“I fought my curly hair for a long time because I wanted to look like everyone else. Then, I realized that not everyone had curly hair, and I was lucky enough to have something different. So, I learned how to embrace it. I figured out ways to tame the frizz, I figured out which styling products worked best for me because all curly hair is different, and I  also figured out different ways to curl my hair–taking my hair from super curly to messy beach waves,” explains independent salon owner Angela Watson. “I love working with curls and showing clients how to love their curls because having them is a blessing!”

Now, without further ado…I present Angela Watson’s curly hair tips! Whoo hoo!

  1. No Touchy!: “If you have time in your busy schedule, let your curls air-dry because the heat from blow dryers can sometimes create more frizz, which none of us want! If you need to blow dry your hair, use a warm or cool setting with a diffuser to cut down on the frizz.”
  2. Do Not Upset the Frizz: “When it comes to taming frizz, do not continue to scrunch or run your fingers through the curls because this can create more frizz.”
  3. Shower Application: “If you use a cream hair product, begin application in the shower when your hair is dripping wet. Start by flipping your hair over and scrunching with your cream product. This jump starts the setting process of your curls.”
  4. Let’s Get to the Root of the Problem: “When I talk to clients with curly hair, many of them explain how their hair has too much weight/volume at the bottom, but not enough at the roots making their hair look like a Christmas tree. An easy way to reverse this is to take metal hair clips, pull locks of hair up from the root, and clip the roots in place. (See photo above.) It might look a little funny while your curls set, but this is a lifesaver for all lengths of curly hair–especially long curly hair.”
  5. Find Your Curl Mate: “All curls are different, and that is why there are so many different curling products out there–it is important to find a product that works best for you. I use a curling cream, but that does not mean a curling cream works best for everyone. With a variety of creams, mousses, gels, and sprays, everyone with curly hair is sure to find a product that works perfect for them.”

In Style Inspiration May 2012

Style inspiration is everywhere! You just have to search for it!:)

Inspiration?? Where?! In Style magazine, that’s where! I was thrilled to discover that between my mom’s closet and mine that I had all the pieces to create my May 2012 In Style inspiration outfits! Ladies and gentlemen…let me have your attention please…the VIP is proud to present my…I mean her…latest outfit creations!

Presenting In Style’s inspiration of Lauren Bacall with a VIP touch!

VIP TIP:

  • Every fashionista should own a classy, white skirt! White skirts can be paired with almost anything! It can be made classic and elegant, or funky and bold…with just a simple change of accesories/shoes!

Shirt: The Limited
Skirt: BCBGMaxAzria
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Belt: Target
Earrings: my mom's from the 80s
Necklace: vintage pearl lace

Instead of doing a maxi skirt, I decided to do a knee length skirt...because I live in the Deep South;) haha

VIP TIPS: (about hair)

  • Embrace your natural hair! If your hair is curly, wear it curly and messy! If your hair is straight, wear it straight:)
  • For curly-haired gals like me, I totally recommend Redken Fresh Curls spray gel…it works wonders! It takes care of the frizz while giving the messy, effortless look for which we are all searching. When I purchased mine at Smart Style in Starkville, Mississippi, I snagged a smashingly dandy deal of buy one get one fifty percent off!
  • To give your hair a fresh, healthy look, try Ojion damage reverse hair treatment! I am so in love with this product because it took my frizzy, unbehaved hair (remember…I live in the Deep South…the humidity is completely ridiculous!) to soft and manageable!

The next article that caught this VIP's eye was "Color Crash Course Lemon" which was filled with yellow wonderfulness...yellow is such a happy, fun, summer color!

Shirt: Express
Skirt: KLD Signature
Belt: Betsey Johnson
Shoes: Nine West

I cannot stress enough how much I adore mixing patterns! It is so simple and easy, but gives a look that makes any fashionista stand out in the crowd!

I cannot wait to share with y'all my exciting, vintage-filled, interview with the amazingly talented KK Norris, owner of The Attic vintage shop in Columbus, Mississippi! :)

In Style magazine is a great way to gather inspiration and the motivation to go shopping  in your own closet! Let’s face it…we all want that magazine look, but we don’t always have the time to scour our neighborhoods, towns, cities, metropolises for a new wardrobe each month! That is why I want to assign you the homework of studying fashion magazines to obtain inspiration for new outfits…don’t forget to add your own spin to make it you! It’s as easy as one, two, three!:) A B C , Its easy as 1 2 3 , as simple as do re mi…la la la…that’s all the words…I know…blah blah blah, ABC, It’s easy as 1 2 3……….

Stay tuned to www.vintageinspirespassionista.com for a riveting post about how I found inspiration from an ordinary item from the Columbus Spring Pilgrimage!

Here are a few more photographs…Photograph – I don’t want your Photograph – I don’t need your Photograph – All I’ve got is a photograph But it’s not enough…

Stay fabulous,

Abby Hat.
