Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to VIP Home!

Just like in fashion, the trends of home interiors are always changing–what’s in one year is out the next…but back in style twenty years down the road. VIP Home Advice:  Invest in a neutral hued sofa by thinking of this staple piece as the little black dress of a room’s outfit–it goes with everything. To take a simple sofa to the next level, decide on what trends you want to follow–stalk Pinterest for cute ideas, see what’s hot and what’s not, or simply create your own trend by mixing patterns. When shopping for pillows, imagine yourself looking for trendy accessories for an outfit because dressing your sofa is no different than dressing yourself!

I interviewed Mark Brunetz at the Birmingham Home Show 2013, and he opened my eyes to the world where fashion meets home decor… “I think fashion and interiors are incredibly entwined–They drive each other. I have noticed that [interior] design is certainly inspired by what comes down the runway. When you are building an outfit or a wardrobe, you buy some very timeless pieces like the pencil skirt or the little black dress, and I think the same should go for the home. When it comes to a larger investment piece like a sofa and a bed, that is where you want to go timeless,” explained Mark Brunetz.

Now, without further ado, here are five easy and frugal ways to style a basic gray sofa…yay!
