Recently, I was reading through the February 2016 issue of InStyle Magazine when I stumbled upon the Color Crash Course section which was all about rust…and one of the recommended colors to pair with rust was emerald. Hmmm…. And that got me to thinking about VIP blog posts of the past + how rust and emerald have always been my color sweethearts. Say what?! Let me explain *wink*
Let’s take a little travel back in time to 2012 when VIP was first started (yes, I’m feeling all sentimental this month not because it’s Valentine’s Day, but because I can’t believe VIP is four *sniff* They grow up so quickly *wink*

In February 2012, the month VIP was founded, I blogged about a burnt orange–or now called rust–maxi skirt that was featured in this post. Later, I wrote a post about an emerald skirt and thrifted vest that had stripes of rust. Coincidence that 4 years later to date these two colors are the InStyle Color Crash Course colors? Hmmm… the world may never know *wink*

Now, this is a prime example of how styles change and circle back around because fashion is a lot like weather in the sense that it can never be predicted precisely, but it does have trends over time. AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO BUY CLASSIC ITEMS!! Sure–trendy pieces are fun and fabulous; however, that shouldn’t be your entire wardrobe–unless you have a vast amount of disposable income, then by all means, shop trendy all the time *wink*
Just to put it into perspective, I still own the rust skirt (as well as a brand new one–see here) + a variety of emerald frocks. To see just how much the VIP has always loved rust and emerald–and not “crushing on it” one month out of the year–check out the photos below + stay tuned to the epic Three Ways to Wear coming your way tomorrow *wink*
