Kicking Off Spring Style with Belk and Arlene Goldstein

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog on the first day of spring! Whoo hoo!

Oh, spring has finally sprung which means it is time to go on a spring shopping haul! After the crazy, up-and-down winter weather we had, I am beyond excited to swap the big coats, chunky sweaters, and UGG boots for lightweight cardigans, flowy dresses, and sassy sandals. Now, before we go out and buy our spring wardrobe, let’s take a look at the Spring 2014 Fashion Forecast, courtesy of Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s Vice President of Trend Mechandising and Fashion Direction. (Pst…remember when the VIP interviewed Arlene?  To celebrate Throwback Thursday, let’s take a look back at the VIP interview here and learn more about the fabulous fashion expert!)

Spring 2014 fashion is all about creating a statement style with pieces that look and feel fabulously modern with a dash of classic. Before we kick off spring shopping, let’s check the fashion weather. This season, Arlene Goldstein is predicting light showers of dazzling jewelry, wind gusts of statement shoes, and a monsoon of must-have apparel items. Fierce florals and feminine charms will be in full bloom as exotic fabrics and clean lines take fashionista closets by storm. So, let’s grab our trendy umbrellas and hit the stores fully prepared to locate the hot trends below:

Feminine Charms

From ultra-romantic to chic eccentric with a femme flare, this [Feminine Charms] is a fashion story that delivers a dynamic aura. Expect looks to exude elegance with oversized ruffles, fit-and-flare silhouettes, appliqued petals and new, longer lengths. Heavy lace, luminescent layers and sheer fabrics easily finesse any look, and florals are flawless along with dots, swirls and pattern mixes.

Step into the limelight with add-ons that offer everything from whimsy to clever practicality. Not-so-proper pearls, floral motif jewelry, shiny gold finishes, chain bags, clutches and single-sole pumps are just a few essentials.

“As a style statement, Jetsetter always says ‘yes,’ to a tribal twist with a multi-cultural mix,” notes Goldstein. Neutrals–especially khakis and greens–need no introduction. Details of the Jetsetter trend includes both utility and handcrafted elements such as zips, pockets, studs and grommets along with ornate embellishments, tassels, fringe and frayed edges.

Jacquards, silks, sheers, linen and washed poplin are just a few of the textiles that inspire this indisputably cool glam gal. Artsy camo, lkats, new tropicals and scenics are some of the flawlessly executed patterns that add to the spirit of adventure that is so relevant to this trend. Layers of jewelry, natural leathers, burnished metals, embellished totes and new gladiators give this trend the polish and panache it definitely deserves, effortlessly chic and natural.

Clean Slate

Clean Slate touts strong sculptural shapes and understated elegance, causing minimal chic to have maximum impact. Check out A-line silhouettes, asymmetric detailing and architectural lines, and anticipate an ultra-modern makeover with sportif touches that add an off-duty edginess.

Textiles are interesting and innovative with cheer, metallic finishes and New Age synthetics that offer sleek chic at its best. Bold patterns blaze with photorealisms, stripes, color blocking, exaggerated geos and digital designs–the simplest ideas are the best and anything graphic goes a long way.

The accessories in Clean Slate say it all. Count on items with a contemporary feel–mirror metallics, boxy shaped handbags (clutches, totes, satchels), strong cuffs and geometric pendants, multi rings, chunky heels and anything color blocked because it is strong and powerful.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for Belk’s Most Wanted List from Arlene Golstein! Oh…I cannot wait to share it with y’all!

Daring To Be Different

by Everlife

My first thought said
With no line, you’ll get lost this time
If you don’t know where you’re going
My second thought said
It’s okay, okay to change
It’s time you started growing

So there I stood without a clue
My head tried to tell me what to do
My heart started playing tug-of-war
Like it’s out of my hands

To be fearless, when I’m scared to move
I’m overdue
Daring to be different
To scream, yes, yeah I’m awake
I will not break
Daring to, daring to be different

The whole world tells me
If I choose wrong
I won’t belong
I better make the right decision
But what they do and
What they say
Are not the same
They’re a spinning contradiction

It’s just the old that they call new
Dizzy from all the points of view
Closing my eyes while breathing in
Look up, let go, no hands

To be fearless, when I’m scared to move
I’m overdue
Daring to be different
To scream, yes, yeah I’m awake
I will not break
Daring to, daring to be different

Different, different

To be fearless when I’m scared to move
I’m overdue
Daring to be different
To scream, yes, yeah I’m awake
I will not break
Daring to, daring to be different

Modeling Shoot: The Modern Day Jack & Diane

Jack & Diane

John Cougar Mellencamp

Little ditty about Jack and Diane
Two American kids growin’ up in the heartland
Jackie gonna be a football star
Diane debutante backseat of Jackie’s car

Suckin’ on chili dogs outside the Tastee freeze
Diane’s sittin’ on Jackie’s lap
He’s got his hand between her knees
Jackie say, hey, Diane
Let’s run off behind a shady trees
Dribble off those Bobby Brooks
Let me do what I please
Say a

Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin’ is gone
Say a
Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin’ is gone
They walk on

Jackie sits back
Reflects his thoughts for the moment
Scratches his head
And does his best James Dean
Well you know, Diane
We oughta run off to the city
Diane says, baby
You ain’t missin’ nuth-in
Jackie, say-a

Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin’ is gone
Oh yeah, I say, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin’ is gone

 Gonna let it rock
Let it roll
Let the Bible Belt come
And save my soul
Hold on to sixteen as long as you can
Changes come around real soon
Make us women and men

Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin’ is gone
Oh yeah, I say, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin’ is gone

Warby Parker Sunglasses: The Meridian Collection Reveal

“A new concept in eyewear.”

Warby Parker was founded with a rebellious spirit and a lofty objective: to create boutique-quality, classically crafted eyewear at a revolutionary price point.  A collaboration between four close friends, Warby Parker was conceived as an alternative to the overpriced and bland eyewear available today. Prescription eyewear simply should not cost $300+….The Warby Parker aesthetic is vintage-inspired with a contemporary twist. Every pair is custom fit with anti-reflective, polycarbonate prescription lenses. Available exclusively through [Warby Parker] website and showrooms, [their] glasses start at $95.” (

“Eyewear with a purpose.”

Almost one billion people worldwide lack access to glasses. This means that 15% of the global population cannot effectively learn or work – a problem that Warby Parker is determined to address. We’ve partnered with non-profits like VisionSpring to ensure that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need. We believe that everyone has the right to see.” (

“We really wanted to create an organization that had a positive impact on the world. Through our ‘Buy a Pair, Give a Pair’ program, we have a really tangible and transparent way for our costumers to actually get involved,” says co-founder of Warby Parker Dave Gilboa. (

The Meridian Collection Reveal

The Meridian Collection is for renegade travelers and roaming aviators, a tool for impromptu expeditions and perilous treks. We’ve named it after the geographical mark that pilots use to determine their longitudinal degree. These are sunglasses for off-road excursions and uncharted territory–perfect from North Pole to South Pole to anywhere in between.” (Warby Parker press release)

“Our three new frames are teardrop-shaped and fashioned from Japanese ion-plated titanium. We’ve named them after some of our favorite disruptive writers–Fredrick Exley, Ellen Raskin, and Flannery O’Conner. Each author lived a vivid life, on and off the page. Available in Jet Silver and Polished Gold, these sharp sunglasses are made for cinematic slow-reveal, whatever your locale.” (Warby Parker press release)

What do I love most about Warby Parker? Is it their reasonably terrific prices? No–it is that Warby Parker is giving back! Not only is Warby Parker creating fabulous quality products and fashionable designs, but they are also helping the less-fortunate see the world clearly again through their “Buy a Pair, Give a Pair” program.  “You never get tired of seeing somebody put on a pair of glasses for the first time. It is just this incredibly powerful moment when that person realized wow–the world is back,” says co-founder of Warby Parker Neil Blumenthal. (
