Fabulous Friday: Fabulous Finds Five Dollars and Under at Pier 1 Imports

IMG_5521

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Ahh…don’t you just love Fridays! They are the perfect excuse to take an hour off of work to pamper yourself, but the pampering does not have to be expensive or super time-consuming. To prove it, I did just that. I took some time out of my busy schedule today to shop at Pier One for some little goodies to kick off the weekend…AND GUESS WHAT?! Each item in the photo above was UNDER FIVE BUCKS. Now, if that is not a good reason to do a happy dance, I don’t know what is *wink*

These cutesy Fortune Stickies were only $1.98! So lovely and a little funny too *wink*

Last but not least, I actually picked up a pampering item *wink* A spa eye mask for $3.95. It is chilling in my fridge now so that I can relax with it after posting this blog *wink*

VIP DIY: Tie-Bleaching Denim

IMG_5324

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Do y’all remember when I bought that denim vest for two dollars at my hometown flea market? Let’s refresh our memory here *wink*

Now, because I love DIYing denim SO much, I decided to share with y’all one of my favorite denim-bleaching techniques–tie-bleaching denim–on this special VIP DIY. Ooo…I wonder what it could be *wink*

How did I create this look? Well, gather the below necessities, and let's get started!
How did I create this look? Well, gather the below items, and let’s get started!
  • A denim vest/jacket

  • 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach (I used Splash-less Clorox.)

  • A glass cup

  • 1/2 cup of water

  • A foam brush

  • Several rubber-bands or cloth ties

WARNING: Before getting started, please note that you will need to do this DIY in a well-ventilated area. Also, do not directly inhale any bleach fumes. Remember bleach will bleach. Be careful and wear old clothes! If you are sensitive to smells or bleach, do not attempt this project.

Step 1: Lay out your vest with the back panel facing up.

Step 2: Pinch a tiny piece of the denim pulling it up into a "unicorn horn". NOTE: If you have ever tie-dyed, it is the same method starting out *wink*
Step 2: Pinch a tiny piece of the denim pulling it up into a “unicorn horn”–this is very much like tie-dyeing–but we are going to use a bleach mixture instead of colored dyes.

Step 3: Add a rubber-band or cloth tie to the bottom of your "unicorn horn".
Step 3: Add a rubber-band or cloth tie to the bottom of your “unicorn horn”.
Step 4: Add another rubber-band or cloth tie to the tabout an inch from the first tie. Get it as tight as possible.
Step 4: Add another rubber-band or cloth tie about an inch from the first tie. Remember to get it as tight as possible.
Step 5: Combine a half of cup of bleach with one forth of a cup of water. Do NOT directly inhale bleach fumes.
Step 5: Combine a half of cup of bleach with equal parts water. This is a strong mixture!
Do NOT directly inhale bleach fumes.
Step 6: Begin painting on the bleach-water mixture to the top of the "unicorn horn". NOTE: When working with light colored denim, be extra generous with the amount bleach mixture you apply.
Step 6: Begin painting on the bleach-water mixture to the top of the “unicorn horn”–please be careful to not get the mixture on your hands or fingers. If you do, please stop immediately and wash your hands with soap and water.

Step 7: After applying enough bleach mixture to the top not, move on to the base of the vest. Do NOT "un-bunch" the vest's base. Bleaching the base while it is bunched adds a more tie-dyed affect.
Step 7: After applying enough bleach mixture to the top, move on to the base of the vest. Do NOT “un-bunch” the vest’s base. Bleaching the base while it is bunched adds a more tie-dyed effect.
Step 8 (part 1): While your sunburst is bleaching, feel free to add mini ones in random areas on the vest.
Step 8 (part 1): While your sunburst is bleaching, feel free to add mini ones in random areas on the vest.
Step 8 (part 2): If desired, also bleach areas of the front of your vest too. Do not be afraid to get a little creative *wink*
Step 8 (part 2): If desired, bleach other areas of the vest. Do not be afraid to get a little creative *wink* BUT remember to be very careful!
Step 9: After applying the bleach-mixture where desired, wait 7 to 10 minutes and untie the rubber-bands/cloth ties.
Step 9: After applying the bleach-mixture where desired, wait 7 to 10 minutes and untie the rubber-bands/cloth ties. If you have sensitive skin, please wear gloves designed for handling chemicals.
Step 10: Rinse your denim vest/jacket with warm water. Once it is completely rinsed, throw it in the wash and hang to try.
Step 10: Rinse your denim vest/jacket with warm water. Once it is completely rinsed, throw it in the wash and hang to try. It is recommended to not wash the vest with other clothing items. Wash it alone.

Kate Spade Saturday Origami Tote--Retail, this floral beauty would cost $110; however, I snatched it up on sale for only $32.00! The orginal TJMaxx price was $39.99.

Frugal Friday: $2 Flea Market Find

unnamed (6)

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

I am taking a quick break from color-staining my apartment patio to tell y’all about this week’s fabulously frugal find–a two-dollar, denim vest, which I found at a flea market in my hometown of Louisville, Mississippi. I absolutely could not pass this deal up because it has marvelous DIY potential!

Speaking of DIY potential….I have been racking my brain trying to decide how exactly I want to DIY my two-dollar vest. I already have a distressed one hanging in my closet from the first ever VIP DIY, and it would be a bit silly to repeat the same DIY tactics with another denim vest. Hm…what to do…what to do…

Well, readers, this patio isn’t going to stain itself, unfortunately *wink*  So, I do not have time to ponder or wander the world wide web for denim vest DIY ideas. So, shoot me an email, comment on this blog, or post a comment to Facebook with YOUR nifty DIY ideas. I would love to hear them!

P.S. I also got some fabulous plants for my apartment's green space today! Oh, I cannot wait to start sharing more of the patio's progress with y'all starting in July on VIP Home! :)

Frugal Friday: A Trip to Sephora + Happy Birthday, Mom!

IMG_5769

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Happy Friday, y’all! Also…happy birthday to my mom–the coolest mom EVER *wink*

I am going to keep this week’s Frugal Friday brief because I still have yet to make my mom’s gluten-free brownie cake–as she requested–and I have to rest up for the Kingsport Art Crawl tomorrow! Oh, goodness….what shall I wear?!

I digress…This week’s Frugal Friday is all about an outfit I created by shopping in my own closet–take a look:

unnamed

Blouse: Deep South Pout (click here to see other ways I’ve worn this dime of a top *wink*)

Skirt: Molly Green Boutique (click here to see other ways I’ve worn this fabulously floral frock)

Heels: BCBG (These were actually my mom’s shoes–she bought them several years ago–it’s safe to say these heels were a classic buy *wink*)

Mom and I totally failed at our attempt to get the Sephora sign in our selfie...our luck--it's backwards *wink*

While shopping at Sephora in Johnson City, I picked up a lip gloss for the slamming price of $1.99–now, that’s a frugal buy! To make it even better–it’s universal pink…my favorite *wink*

Stay tuned to Beauty Tues in the coming weeks to find out the other awesome things I purchased + mini tutorials! Yay!

Now, readers, I am off to make gluten-free brownie cake in celebration of my mom’s 20th birthday *wink*
