How to Redo an Old Brick Backsplash (Without Tearing It Out)

When we first looked at buying our current house, one of the biggest concerns was updating the kitchen…especially on a budget. It was a hot mess of modern and outdated, but as they say–location, location, location! Our quaint, 1960 abode is right in the hub of Tennessee’s Oldest Town, and it is the perfect starter home for our family of two (plus Oakley *wink*). So, we started planning how we could best update our kitchen without breaking the bank or totally ruining its midcentury charm.

Life Update: Engaged, New Home, & Painting Projects

To say life has been busy and filled with (good) stress lately is a huge understatement. In a short period of time, I got engaged, bought a home, and immediately jumped into revamping it.

As I step into a new phase of life with my fiance Skyler, I am looking forward to sharing updates of all of our adventures with all of you! I will continue blogging about all things fashion and vintage, but I will also be adding posts about easy home projects, decor ideas, landscaping, and more! Weekly Whistle: The Funky Office Chick

IMG_3491

When it comes to dressing to impress, I am all about keeping it professional; however, I like to add a lot of color, pattern and all-around-fun to my business looks. I mean–who said that work couldn’t be fun, funky and fashionable *wink*

For this week’s Weekly Whistle, I took fun and funky to a whole new level by combining a vintage-inspired wrap skirt with a plaid tank, turquoise blazer and burgundy/copper jewelry. Although these outfit elements don’t exactly look off-the-rack…that is kind of the point *wink*

VIP TIP: One thing I think is important about fashion, especially in a work environment, is to keep self-expression loud and proud (and within the rules of the workplace *wink*). I love to mix patterns and colors + even play around with my hair and makeup when I am feeling super adventurous! SO, the next time you get bored with your every-day, blazer-and-pencil-skirt look, pop on a colorful blouse or opt for a patterned pencil skirt OR–one of my personal favorites–a colored blazer. It’s SURE to add a little pizzazz to your work day ♥

Now, without further ado, check out this week’s Weekly Whistle below + be sure to come back tomorrow for a fabulous Three Ways to Wear featuring Monkee’s of Johnson City and one of my (new) favorite local jewelry brands Beauty In Stone Jewelry
