IMG_6471

Hey y’all!

After I published “Broken Bicycles” yesterday, I could not help but reminisce about some of my favorite artistic photo blogs….Want to Buy 97 Farms, Dirt Road Prayer, Got A Gun, and many more! While flashing back, I also discovered that there were a few pictures that did not make it to the blog…so I am going to share those with y’all TODAY on #ThrowbackThursday! Yep, that’s right…never-before-seen photos from some of the VIP’s most famous artistic photo shoots. *wink*

Now, y’all take a look at the following photos while I load another episode of The X-Files on Netflix *wink*

Broken Bicycles by Tom Waits

Broken bicycles
Old busted chains
With rusted handle bars
Out in the rain

Somebody must
Have an orphanage for
All these things that nobody
Wants anymore

September’s reminding July
It’s time to be saying good-bye

Summer is gone
Our love will remain
Like old broken bicycles
Out in the rain

Broken bicycles
Don’t tell my folks
There’s all those playing cards
Pinned to the spokes

IMG_5725 IMG_5735

Laid down like skeletons
Out on the lawn
The wheels won’t turn
When the other has gone

The seasons can turn on a dime
Somehow, I forget every time

For all the things that you’ve given me
Will always stay…
Broken, but I’ll never throw them away

Hotel Room Boredom: Part One

IMG_0596

About the Photo Shoot:

What happens when you leave two, creative blondes in a hotel room with a camera, no car, and no debit card? Well….Once upon a time–well…yesterday…my mom and I were stranded at our hotel with no car and no debit card…don’t panic…we had snacks, Diet Dr. Pepper, and change for the vending machine…Anyway, while we were sitting there twiddling our thumbs–okay, so we were checking our Facebook newsfeeds and watching re-runs of Let’s Make a Deal--we came up with a brilliant idea for a photo shoot. With our thinking hats on, we set out to create the most magnificent outfits and photo shoot set EVER. I started digging through my suitcase to style outfits as my mom wrecked one corner of our hotel room for the set. Note: No hotel rooms were harmed in the shooting of these photos *wink* This little project occupied us for several hours until my dad came back to the hotel and saw me standing on the chair (see photo above), and jokingly stated, “I don’t even what to know.” My mom may not be a professional photographer, but these photos turned out totally fabulous–and we had a lot of fun! Now, enjoy Part One of Hotel Room Boredom and stay tuned for part two coming soon! Yay!

Work to Play

“Everybody’s doing a brand new dance, now.  Come on baby, do the loco-motion.  I know you’ll get to like it, if you give it a chance, now.  Come on baby, do the loco-motion.  My little baby sister can do it with me.  It’s easier than learning your ABC’s, so come on, come on, do the loco-motion with me!”  What a mega classic!  I can remember dancing around in my Barbie pajamas as I sang the “Locomotion” by Little Eva!  Speaking of locomotion, according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “Locomotion is the act or power of moving from place to place.”  That definition fits us busy fashionistas perfectly.   It is important to have a key piece in our wardrobe that can take us anywhere in a snap because of our full schedules!  My top locomotion pick for this season is a fabulous raspberry pink sweater skirt.  By changing up and layering, I was able to create two stellar looks-one for work and one for play.

Blouse: The Attic
Skirt: Target
Suspenders: Walmart
Sneakers: Converse

An outfit perfect for play and totally pretty in pink is a vintage high-collared button up and a darling raspberry hue sweater-knit skirt paired with neutral tone suspenders and retro style sneakers.  So fabulous and comfortable, this ensemble works great for looking absolutely ravishing on a quick coffee run, movies with friends, or a day of antiquing!

Sporting an adorable animal motif sweater with a precious pink vintage high collared blouse and a sweater skirt is a marvelous way to look professional, yet fun at the same time!  Pair this spectacular ensemble with classic black, closed-toe stilettos and BAM! There you have it!  You are ready to go from a day at the office to dinner in a instant!

VIP Tips on Work to Play:

  1. Purr-fect Sweaters:  Animal-motif sweaters are huge right now! “…Pair your sweater with tailored separates in luxe fabrics, such as brocade, leather, or menswear tweed. To add a grown-up edge, opt for suede platforms or booties with a high heel,” says InStyle Magazine, August 2012 issue.
  2. Playful Hemline!:  Find a playful hemline skirt that flatters your figure.  When in doubt, choose an A-line skirt!  “An A-line is universally flattering,” says Glamour magazine.
  3. Super Suspenders!:  Suspenders to the rescue!  Add a throw-back vibe to any skirt or pants outfit with suspenders!  Neutral colored suspenders play well with preppy skirts, Bermuda shorts, or slightly relaxed boy-friend jeans for a picture-perfect ensemble.  Dare to wear black suspenders with trousers and graphic tees for a funky casual look.
  4. Statement Piece Magic!:   Brooches, chunky bracelets, and unique necklaces are magical for all ensembles!  Play up a boring blouse with a gorgeous statement necklace, a business blazer with a lovely brooch, and a flowy dress with bedazzled arm candy!  You can easily take any outfit from work to play with the right accessories.
  5. Let’s Hear it for the Boys!:  For work-wear, a patterned shawl cardigan worn with a solid hue long sleeve button up underneath and paired with flat front chinos gives a comfy, yet professional vibe.  For play, wear that snazzy patterned shawl cardigan with a graphic band tee and light wash jeans.  This outfit is a terrific for a night out with the boys.
