Weekly Whistle: How to Dress for Hot-Cold Weather in Style

IMG_1870

Is it just me, or does it seem like winter weather keeps creeping into the forecast? *sigh* I am so ready for consistently hot weather; however, it seems nowhere in sight. So, how do we fabulous fashionistas dress-to-impress in this outrageously hot-cold weather? WELL…I am so glad you asked *wink*

We all have a winter-to-spring wardrobe, but it is all about knowing what to do and how to do it. So, for this week’s fabulous Weekly Whistle, I am going to show y’all a simple outfit on how-to dress for hot-cold weather in style + give a few VIP quick tips. So, without further ado, let’s get this party started! *hit it DJ!*

  • Play It Slow: Think about your transitional outfit like a crush on a cute, shy guy–you don’t want to jump in too quickly and make things awkward, so you play it step-by-step. Now, in the case of an outfit, you do not want to run straight into wearing light sun dresses and open-toe sandals, so reach for a cute pair of colorful shorts and a chunky sweater instead. This gives you a fabulously springy look without freezing to death when the wind blows *wink*
  • Be a Layering Queen: I am the worst at this because growing up in the Deep South, layering was never really needed; however, living in Northeast Tennessee has taught me the power of knowing how to layer–especially when the seasons are changing. It is important during hot-cold weather to plan an outfit layer-by-layer in order to be comfortable from day to night. It is best to think about your outfit in segments, so that as the temperature rises throughout the day, you can shed your layers and show your true, spring colors! And when the temperature goes down with the sun, you can easily add back a light jacket or cardigan to stay all warm and cozy. :)

Weekly Whistle: A Day At the Salon with Brantley Willis

IMG_0552

For a long, long, long, LONG time, I have been wanting my hair cut and styled like a modern version of Marilyn Monroe. Thanks to Brantley Willis and Jeremy Stephens at The Association of Independent Artists–The Salon that long-loved look became a reality!

IMG_0529
Isn’t Brantley Willis precious!

Brantley Willis, a tremendously talented stylist, did such a FABULOUS job with my color and cut–I could not have asked for a more perfect vintage look! It is hard to trust new people with my signature curly locks, but at the end of the day–it was totally worth it. I am still in complete shock of the wonderful job Brantley did with my curls.  Bonus:  it was so much fun being with Brantley, Jeremy, and Walker today!  Y’all are TOTALLY FABULOUS!

As I was waiting for my top highlights to finish up–the mom, Brantley, and Walker Crow (hair stylist at The Salon) were chatting about how I wanted my hair cut. I have always referred to the VIP cut as a “curly bob”…until today…until Walker Crow’s genius…So…Walker Crow came up with the “cob”–a curly bob.  From this point forward, the VIP’s signature curly bob will be referred to as a “cob”…yes, readers…a “cob”…it is catchy…Thanks, Walker Crow, for that fabulous title:)  Bonus:  I love corn on the cob smothered with butter…slathered in butter….

Jeremy Stephens and I having some fun at The Salon!

Near the end of the drying process, I began to love my hair EVEN MORE–I did not know that was even possible. To make my hair experience even more fabulous, Jeremy Stephens cut my bangs and played with my hair.  I showed him a picture of Marilyn (yes, I have photos readily available of Marilyn on my phone) and no more than five minutes later…BAM!…I looked like a modern version of the iconic Marilyn Monroe.  It was absolute perfection…so, so, so, so, so, amazing. Words cannot express how much I love the new Cob!  Walker, you have created the most spectacular name for my ‘do.

Note:

To the nice guy named Austin that gave me a sweet note with your number on a napkin at the salon today…my mom threw it away before I realized what she had done.  Please understand that it was not personal.  She thought that it was trash.

For future fans and friends, please do not write valuable information on napkins. I recommend brightly colored sticky notes.  To my knowledge the mom has not thrown away any valuable information written on sticky notes.

Summer Slouch Series: Outfit One

IMG_9972

Maybe it is just me, but I have noticed that the trending ensemble for summer activities is a t-shirt, Nike shorts, and sandals. Here, in Birmingham, you will see LOTS of teenagers sporting the oversized pocket tees, Nike shorts, and Chacos with their hair and makeup fixed perfectly.  No, I am not bashing the fashion. Every girl needs their “play” clothes–even fashionistas like me!  Whenever I make a quick run to Target, you will most likely see me in Nike running shorts, a t-shirt, my lovely green Chacos, and a messy top bun or side pony tail–there you go, paparazzi.  Now, you know where to snap a picture of me when I am not all dolled up.  You’re welcome.

Now don’t get me wrong…I am all about being comfortable, but I cannot resort to wearing my hair down, with full-fledged makeup… and then tossing on athletic shorts and an old t-shirt…hmm…how can I feel comfortable and look amazing at the same time?  Two words.  Summer Slouch.

IMG_9961

What is Summer Slouch, you ask?  Well, it is quite simple.  Rather than slipping on Nike shorts and a Joe’s Crab Shack tee, you can toss on a cute and colorful mini skirt paired with a graphic tee and snazzy sneakers for a look that is far more dazzling!  That is what Summer Slouch is all about–quick, easy, comfortable, and super spectacularly stylish.

Whether you are having an all-day girls-day shopping all over the city OR whether you are going for a picnic at the local botanical gardens with that cute guy you met at the beach OR whatever the occasion…the VIP Summer Slouch will keep you feeling comfy and looking too-hot-to-handle.  Now, enough chatting and explaining and thinking about meeting a hot guy at the beach, let’s see what cute combo is going to kick off the VIP Summer Slouch Series. Woo hoo!
