Beauty Tues: My Secret Weapon for Frizz-Free, Natural Curls (featuring NYM brands)

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to Beauty Tues.

If there is one thing I have learned from growing up with thick, wild, curly hair…it is that “people always expect more of you when you have naturally curly hair,” according to Frieda from the Peanuts *wink* All jokes aside, it really is *sorta* true!

There is this false idea that people with naturally curly hair can just wash it, dry it, and go on about their way….SO. NOT. TRUE. Unless I am going for a 1970s teased afro….because then washing, blow-drying, and heading out would totally work.

Although curly hair can be a real bummer sometimes, it also has its major upsides too! See below:

1. Creating the infamous messy-updo is a piece of cake.

2. Want sexy and volumized hair? *turn head over; run fingertips at the roots of hair; flip up* Done.

3. You can brag to everyone that you have naturally curly hair *Frieda voice*

Now, it is time to get serious.

After trying more hair products than I care to count…AND after my hair decided to not like mousse anymore (not sure what that is about…but it started to frizz SO badly!) I found Not Your Mother’s Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream. Not Your Mother’s is a fairly new brand on the beauty scene, having launched in 2010; however, this newbie company is knocking the frizz off of the competition with their ALL gluten-free (and paraben/sulfate free) products MADE IN THE USA with no animal testing. I am speechless right now–literally speechless. *but not for long* I am so in love with NYM, and all of its awesomeness. Why can’t other hair companies be this fabulous?!

OH! And did I mention that I majorly adore the titles of all of the NYM products? Y’all know how much I love clever titles…so, of course, I love using a product that is called “Kinky Moves” every morning *wink* Between my FitBit silent alarm (which is MEGA cool) and my Kinky Moves cream, waking up at 5AM isn’t so dreadful *wink*

The Survival Kit of a Fashionable College Gal featuring Man Crates

ManCrates: Survival Kit

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Recently, I was contacted by the company Man Crates, which is all about (super cool) gifts for men, about my five, must-have essentials for a survival kit. See photo above. I probably should have listed things like a first-aid kit or hiking shoes; however, I think lipstick and popcorn would be much more fun when stranded *wink*
Now, despite popular belief of the (cute) little old men that sit outside the gas station near my campus, I am not married. *true story* Yesterday on my way back to Johnson City, an elderly fellow stopped and asked me about my VW Beetle, then asked me where my husband worked. When I told him I was not married, he looked at me like I had nine heads. “Someone let you get away! I find that hard to believe,” he exclaimed. It was adorable and a little bit awkward. Oh, how I wish everyone saw me like old people *wink* I digress–So, why would a single girl like myself want anything to do with a company that is all about cool men’s gifts? Great question!
I love to give gifts, and I take my Christmas shopping very seriously. And I typically get nontraditional gifts for my dad and Paw Riley because they are too cool for tacky sweaters and ties, which is where Man Crates comes in handy! There is no ribbon or cheesy wrapping paper and each crate is reasonably-priced! Also, they have SO many different crate options–from the grill master to the zombie-apocalypse prepper (seriously? Yes, seriously). I am quite intrigued by the jerky ones–I think both my dad and Paw Riley would really love those!
Now, let’s take a look at the details of my five must-have essentials for a survival kit. P.S. I may regret not tossing in a few ban-aids, especially if I have to take a hike in those wedges *wink*

Weekly Whistle: College Bound + Antique Shopping Exhaustion

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Phew–the past few days have been quite crazy for me! I have been running through my college schedule–literally–trying to find the best routes on how to get from Class A to Class B in a reasonable amount of time…memorizing my Student ID number…and tag number. On top of that, I have been antique shopping in Johnson City and Elizabethton all day in search of items to finish my closet organization–I picked up some super amazing things that I cannot wait to show y’, stay tuned to VIP Home *wink*

Anyway…where was I? Oh, my–today is Wednesday, which means it is time to take a look at the outfit of the week. Now, while y’all check out the photos (taken at Northeast State Community College…Go Bears! *wink*) + the outfit details, I am going to go indulge myself with some homemade gluten-free pizza *wink*

Beauty Tues: What’s New In My Beauty Bag

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to Beauty Tues.

This week on VIP Beauty Tues, I am going to show y’all what new things I am adding to my beauty bag for college. Since I will be commuting each day, I decided I would need to toss a few extra beauty-saving essentials in my bag because I want to be prepared for a fashion emergency *wink*

ALSO, keep reading to find out from what fabulous designer I got my beauty bag…at a great deal, of course *wink*

*Note…I am no beauty product photographer. Oh, how I wish my photographer would have been in town this week to snap a photo of my makeup bag without a glare *wink**

What’s New In My Beauty Bag:

  1. Lotions: I picked up a lotion specifically for softening hands because no fashionista wants dry, rough skin. I really love Bath & Body Works’s “True Blue Paraffin” hand lotion because it is able to cut through my tough skin without leaving my hands slick and yucky. I also picked up a “Stress Relief” mini body lotion at Bath & Body Works because I love the smell + it never hurts to have something for stress relief *wink*

  2. Lip Glosses: I am not typically a huge fan of lip glosses because I have a hard time finding ones I really like. So, when I saw that Bath & Body Works’s had MY FAVORITES on sale, I had to pick up a few. I highly recommend their mentha-infused ones and the Jelly Pops. The mentha-infused ones always feel so wonderful on chapped lips + they slide easily over lipsticks. The Jelly Pops are simply fun and cute + they smell delicious!

  3. Mini Hand Sanitizers: This one is pretty self explanatory *wink* I want to do everything possible to stay well during the school year–so, I picked up several different kinds of Bath & Body Works’s mini sanitizers to not only keep in my makeup bag, but to also keep in my backpack, purse, and car.

Now, it is time for me to reveal where I picked up such a darling makeup bag–*drum roll*….KATE SPADE online! Ah! I am a true lover of all things Kate Spade, and this “Escape The Ordinary” bag is a daily reminder for me to keep being true to myself :)

If you have not checked out all the great deals at Kate Spade online–check it out here! You never know what you might fall in love with *wink*
