The Best Products for Naturally Curly Hair | Budget-Friendly Beauty Buys

If you have naturally curly hair, you know the struggle of finding good hair products that tame your frizz and nurture your curls without killing your bank account.

Over the years, I have battled the store shelves to find the best products that were also price-friendly for curly hair. For a short while, I used the Living Proof line, and while it was a FABULOUS set of products, my college-girl budget didn’t exactly like how much I was having to spend on hair products *sad face* When I was in the 8th grade (let’s not talk about how long ago that was *wink*), I used a mousse by Herbal Essences that I thought was discontinued because I couldn’t seem to find it anywhere. I gave up looking for it and was pretty much heartbroken…UNTIL A MIRACLE HAPPENED. During my Christmas break in Mississippi, I stumbled upon my beloved Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse at Dollar General. I was so happy I could have screamed and danced a jig *wink* Well, I kinda did!

So, my curly-headed sisters, I understand the disappointment of not being able to find the perfect products or frizz-taming secrets that work with your curls, and that is why for this week’s fabulous VIP Beauty Tues, I have decided to spill the beans about what products I use for making sure my natural curls always look #OnPoint *wink* Now, without further ado, take a look at the products below to see what I use to achieve natural, happy curls :) Next week, I am going to give away all my secrets and tricks on how to tame the frizz and manage a short, curly ‘do!

1. Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse (click to shop online)

It is really hard to complain about the price of this fabulous curly-hair product. For under $5, it works wonders + one bottle lasts me a little over a month. What a win-win for my hair and my wallet *wink*

2. Living Proof No Frizz Weightless Spray (click to shop online)

While this product isn’t nearly as cost-friendly as the mousse above, it works WONDERS + it only takes one or two spritzes to tame wild frizz. Because I dry my hair with a diffuser, I typically have flyaway ends, so I love to use this product on just the tips. Also, this frizz spray is a lifesaver on rainy or humid days!

3. Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray (click to shop online)

One thing I absolutely love more than chocolate milkshakes is hairspray, and I absolutely swear by Big Sexy Spray & Play! It has a strong, all-day hold and easily washes out without leaving my hair damaged.

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

This week on Beauty Tues, I am going to share the fabulous curly hair tips that Angela Watson of Angela Watson Salon gave the VIP at the grand opening of Salon Suites! Now, let’s not lollygag and chit chat–let’s get down to the curly hair talk!

“I fought my curly hair for a long time because I wanted to look like everyone else. Then, I realized that not everyone had curly hair, and I was lucky enough to have something different. So, I learned how to embrace it. I figured out ways to tame the frizz, I figured out which styling products worked best for me because all curly hair is different, and I  also figured out different ways to curl my hair–taking my hair from super curly to messy beach waves,” explains independent salon owner Angela Watson. “I love working with curls and showing clients how to love their curls because having them is a blessing!”

Now, without further ado…I present Angela Watson’s curly hair tips! Whoo hoo!

  1. No Touchy!: “If you have time in your busy schedule, let your curls air-dry because the heat from blow dryers can sometimes create more frizz, which none of us want! If you need to blow dry your hair, use a warm or cool setting with a diffuser to cut down on the frizz.”
  2. Do Not Upset the Frizz: “When it comes to taming frizz, do not continue to scrunch or run your fingers through the curls because this can create more frizz.”
  3. Shower Application: “If you use a cream hair product, begin application in the shower when your hair is dripping wet. Start by flipping your hair over and scrunching with your cream product. This jump starts the setting process of your curls.”
  4. Let’s Get to the Root of the Problem: “When I talk to clients with curly hair, many of them explain how their hair has too much weight/volume at the bottom, but not enough at the roots making their hair look like a Christmas tree. An easy way to reverse this is to take metal hair clips, pull locks of hair up from the root, and clip the roots in place. (See photo above.) It might look a little funny while your curls set, but this is a lifesaver for all lengths of curly hair–especially long curly hair.”
  5. Find Your Curl Mate: “All curls are different, and that is why there are so many different curling products out there–it is important to find a product that works best for you. I use a curling cream, but that does not mean a curling cream works best for everyone. With a variety of creams, mousses, gels, and sprays, everyone with curly hair is sure to find a product that works perfect for them.”
