This week on VIP Home, I am going to chat about what fabulous flowers I used to landscape my green space. So, before I get distracted because I am typing this outside, let’s take a look at photos + details.
The first plant I picked out was the Black-Eyed Susan. I love this flower because it brings back fun memories of living in Mississippi where Black-Eyed Susans grow on the side of old dirt roads…A little throwback action to a 2012 VIP photo shoot in Mississippi.I paired Black-Eyed Susans with “Pow Wow” Wild Berry Coneflowers and Rusian Sage. I love the play on colors :)Rusian Sage, Spearmint, and “Grand Marshall” Bee Balm creates a magical aroma that makes sitting outside a joy :)Of course, I had to add a fun yard flamingo *wink*Prior to landscaping, this space next to my steps was very…ugly. The old tree stump made the porch area feel hopeless…Until, one day, I decided to embrace the stump. Let’s all hug a stump…I mean tree *wink* Around the stump, I planted a variety of Lantana.Bless these sweet plants’ hearts…I cannot tell y’all how many times I have almost-killed them as well as my fern–Behold my pretty, actually-alive-for-once fern. If there is one thing I have learned in my apartment landscaping experience, it is that keeping plants alive is WAY HARDER than magazines make it out to be.
Let the light shine on my mama
She’s been worried about me
And I can tell she’s tired
Walk my brother in a straight line
I know he’s only 16
But he’s been playing with fire
Give my grandpa a little peace and quiet
I can feel the years of hard work in his hands
Make my days pass just a little bit slower
I’ve been runnin’ so fast
I’ve forgotten who I am
And so I go where the green grass grows
The weeds are high and the sun hangs low
Look to the sky and I say, hello
Like it’s the very first time
It doesn’t matter how long it’s been
I can talk to God like he’s my best friend
Take my heart lay it down again right there
In a dirt road prayer
He’s a good guy
Looks dad in the eye
And I wonder if you made him just for me
But before I fall give me patience
Until you show me where to take this
And I go where the green grass grows
The weeds are high and the sun hangs low
Look to the sky and I say, hello
Like it’s the very first time
It doesn’t matter how long it’s been
I can talk to God like he’s my best friend
Take my heart lay it down again right there
In a dirt road prayer
It’s good to know I can
Always go where the green grass grows
The weeds are high and the sun hangs low
Look to the sky and I say hello, ooo yeah
It doesn’t matter how long it’s been
I can talk to God like he’s my best friend
Take my heart and lay it down again right there
In a dirt road prayer yeah, yeah
In a dirt road prayer yeah, yeah
Hello again readers and welcome to the InStyle Inspiration: July 2012 blog! This month, I have two FABULOUS outfits to share with y’all based off of the marvelous things I was inspired by in the July issue of InStyle!
The first article to catch this fashionista’s eye was “Find Your Perfect Denim Cutoffs”…immediately, I recalled my blog VIP DIY: Dip Dye Shorts, and I just knew my DIY shorts were my perfect denim cutoffs with a sassy VIP attitude:)
Lace Blazer: The Attic (1979 Lace Blazer) Tank Top: Urban Outfitters Shorts: VIP DIY Belt: JCrew Shoes: Material Girl by Madonna
The beginnings of my next outfit started when I saw the article about “peacock shadow”…I knew when I saw it in the Beauty section that I would be glamorizing my eyes with a fresh and daring peacock eyeliner from Lancome!
Building off of the 1980s rebellious blue eye makeup, I decided that I just had to go all out, and that was when I ran across the “Your Look Q&A” article! Someone asked, “I need a break from cardigans. What’s another lightweight layering piece?” and InStyle suggested a light weight cotton blazer…luckily, I had just purchased a turquoise blue blazer similar to the one pictured! So, I skipped off to my closet, grabbed my 80s throwback pants from Deep South Pout, and paired them with a fun floral v-neck shirt and the bright blue blazer (that just screams 1980-in a good way!)! This next outfit is actually on the back of my new business cards:)
Top: Urban Outfitters Blazer: Urban Outfitters Pants: Deep South PoutThis bright blue blazer makes me feel so cute and sophisticated when paired with these fabulous Steve Madden pumps…I have an obsession with super high heels…or so my deddy says;)
Well, there you have it, my lovelies! The VIP’s InStyle Inspiration: July 2012 outfits!
