I am no makeup or nail artist, and I think it is safe to say that. I have had many, many #BeautyFails throughout my years of using makeup and polish. Bless! I still have not perfected–like liquid eyeliner and nail-painting *wink*
So, instead of trying to be something I am not, I decided to create the #VIPBeautyJournal to talk about my favorite eyeshadows, lipsticks, nail polishes, and all that jazz through an outlet that is a little less Greek to me–sketching and journaling!
I filled the first page of my #VIPBeautyJournal with cute doodles + the VIP’s June 2015 nail color of the month–Gamma-Ray Burst from Drip Drop Nail Paint. I also added some FABULOUS neon stars for a little pop of fun! My favorite thing about Gamma-Ray Burst is IT GLOWS IN THE DARK. Yes, that’s right–you heard me! It is nail polish that glows in the dark! How ah-mazing is that *wink* I tried to capture a photograph of the journal in the dark…but I epically failed because I am no photographer either *wink*
If you are head-over-heels for this glow polish, be sure to check out Drip Drop Nail Paint to see the entire glow nail collection! *gasp* So cool!
What is your favorite nail color for June? Join in on the VIP Beauty Journal fun by hashtagging #VIPBeautyJournal on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook! Also, don’t forget to mention Vintage Inspired Passionista Blog on Facebook and @AbbyHathorn on Twitter/Instagram so we can make sure we see your fabulous beauty journal entries! :)
Staying true to the Safari Theme for this week, I went hunting for a fabulous safari-inspired makeup look….Hm…I wonder where the VIP’s inspiration came from? *wink*
On my adventure, I found inspiration in one of my favorite Meryl Streep films (with the exception of The Devil Wears Prada) + Pinterest. Rather than getting complicated, I created a look that is easy to do and repeatable.
If y’all are anything like me, I like my putting on of makeup to be somewhat effortless and error-free. Given, I almost always mess up on my eyeliner *wink* However, when mixing up my daily routine with things like the VIP Safari Theme, I like to keep it simple yet impactful.
Below, check out the details + what awesome products I used for this week’s VIP Beauty Tues :)
Blended three creme eyeshadow colors–started with the darkest in the outer crease. (products will be in order from darkest to lightest)
Lined eyes with waterproof black liner on top lid.
Created a smudged look on bottom lid with a smokey gray pencil liner.
(Note: this creme color is a lot darker than it appears in the container! If deciding to use, apply in small portions and add as needed.)
Blended a pinky rose shade with a pinky nude shade to add a pop of color for a natural-looking pout.
Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to Beauty Tues!
Brrrr! Winter storm Octavia has hit us here in Johnson City, Tennessee and has left us with a bit of snow and ice…snow and ice…snow and ice *wink* Even though the temps are frigid, some of the roads are iced over, and I have a case of the sniffles, all of that will not keep the VIP from enjoying her time cooped up inside! From shopping Luke & Lyla Designs online to painting my nails with Drip Drop Nail Paint, it has been a pretty entertaining day *wink* The homemade and gluten free brownies and chicken and dumplings also made being in bed bearable!
VIP: Tell us a little bit about Drip Drop Nail Paint.
Jessica: I can be a total spaz and need a creative outlet at all times–Drip Drop provides that. It also fulfills my need to be a social butterfly, while still being in my pajamas and drinking coffee, and getting my kids ready for the day.
VIP: What inspired you to start making handmade nail paints?
Jessica: I’ve always had a love for nail polish. I found Instagram about 3 years ago and became aware of the hashtag hype! I saw some amazing nail art, and I got very inspired. I decided to buy some basic brushes and dotting tools to get started on my new hobby [nail art]. As I tried new techniques and different brands of polishes, I stumbled upon “indie nail polish.” I was very intrigued about handmade polish. They were all very unique–not something you could find at the drug store. So, I bought a bunch, and I fell in love with the whole idea of supporting handmade, unique, and small businesses.
VIP: If you were not running Drip Drop Nail Paint, what would you be doing?
Jessica: I have an associates degree in applied science, so I would probably continue my education and go back into the medical field.
VIP: Prior to Drip Drop Nail Paint, what were you doing?
Jessica: I worked for an orthopedic surgeon for about four years, and when she [the surgeon] moved, the staff kind of got lost in the shuffle. I went from that to waitressing/bartending for about a year and a half, and that’s when I rediscovered my love for painting nails–upon doing so, I stumbled upon indie nail polish.
VIP: Which colors are some of your favorites with which to work?
Jessica: Pink and mint green! My favorite color combination.
Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to Beauty Tues.
To kick off the new year, I am going to be introducing a brand new VIP Beauty Tues segment–the Nail Color of the Month! So, without further ado, I present to y’all the FIRST EVER color of the month!
A few months ago, I featured Drip Drop Nail Paint’s “Emily Ellyn’s Retro Rad Red” nail color, and that fabulous red hue was my first Drip Drop polish. After being beyond satisfied, I decided to try another–“Bell Bottoms” because not only is it my favorite color (BLUE!!), but it also reminds me of my favorite pair of trousers! (See photo below)
Hello, fabulouses and welcome back to Beauty Tues.
This week on VIP Beauty Tues, I have a very awesome nail product to share with y’all! AH! Okay. *deep breath*
For starters, do y’all remember when I interviewed the fabulously fashionable Food Network Star Emily Ellyn? Well, let’s take a quick glance back at the fun interviewhereto refresh our memories…
So, can any of y’all guess what my vintage soul sister and Drip Drop Nail Paint have in common? Hm…anyone? Bueller?….Bueller?….I’m sorry…I just had to make that reference *wink*
Now–let’s get serious.
Drip Drop Nail Paint creates handmade nail lacquer that is not only three-free, but also cruelty-free. A cutesy BONUS is that each nail color has a cute name like “Yoga Pants” and “Vintage Jumpsuit”–How precious is that?! I am totally in love withSanta’s Pajamas–it really got me in the Christmas spirit!
So, how did I find out about this awesomeness called Drip Drop Nail Paint? Good question!
A few weeks ago, Emily Ellyn tweeted that she was excited about her new nail polish by Drip Drop, and when I saw that it was Retro Rad Red, I also became mega-excited! So, I immediately snatched up a pot of Emily Ellyn’s Retro Rad Red to try. It was a justifiable, spontaneous buy because red nail polish looks good with everything + it is handmade–y’all know how much the VIP loves to support handmade *wink*
I have tried A LOT of red nail polishes in my life, and Drip Drop’s Retro Rad Red is by far one of the best! It glides on smoothly + the color consistency is so fabulous I can get away with one coat. I give this product FIVE VIP BEAUTY STARS.
