VIP Home: #TheStruggleIsReal with a Small Bathroom Space

The face you make
The face you make when your bathroom is too small to fit all of your junk. *wink*

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Who has a small bathroom space? What about a really small bathroom space? Raise your hands–it’s okay…don’t be shy!

Hi, my name is Abby Hathorn, and I have a small bathroom space, and I am just now learning how to make it functionally adorable. If there is one thing that I have learned moving from a roomy en suite bathroom to a not-so-roomy apartment bathroom, it is that organization CAN and WILL be compromised by the enemy of space. There is nothing you can do to stop it…or is there? *wink*

Without a doubt, tackling a small bathroom space will definitely try your patience; however, there is victory at the end–if you do not lose hope!

Now, so that you do not make the same organizational mistakes that I did when attempting to spruce up a small bathroom space, here are some helpful things I have learned along the way about shelving.

P.S. Be sure to come back next week for a fabulous DIY on how to convert an old drawer into a new shelf with ease *wink*

Do NOT fall under modern shelving’s spell.  Although it may look pretty..you can do better. Hm…that sounds like something my mother would say about a potential boyfriend *wink*

“Ooo…it’s so shiny and sleek,” I caught myself saying when I stumbled upon this shelf at Target, “AND it is on sale.” Starstruck, I brought it home, screwed it to the wall, and tried my luck with organizing it. From the above photo, I think it is safe to say that the shelf was a BIG organizational fail…Awwwwwe…poor little thing. Just because it is shiny and on sale does not mean that you should put a ring on it *wink*

Although it did not work for my space, the concept was spot on. I needed something slim, but I also needed something that I could put items on without worrying about them falling through and slamdunking into the toilet. That happened…that was such a brave makeup brush *sniff, sniff* So, when you are looking for shelving, opt for solid shelves–even if you have to add a smidgen of bulk to the space…I promise you will be better off in the long run and save yourself time, money, and heartache.

Conclusion: Just like boys, most modern shelves are attractive, but they do not fit into our everyday lives very easily. So, opt for a shelf that understands and appreciates your needs *wink*

There…there…it’s okay–the relationship had to an end sooner or later. It was not true love–only love at first sight. You need a lover that won’t drive you crazy *cue John Cougar Mellencamp*, and the next shelf is sure to be “Mr. Right”! Oh, I am just full of myself today *wink*

P.S. Don’t you just love it when blooper shots turn out to be useful?! The photo above was from a lighting test where my photographer made me laugh so hard my face turned red…I could not help but hide *wink*

And now a little happy music because it’s Monday and John Cougar makes everything better:
