Weekly Whistle: Little Denim Dress

IMG_2192

We all have that little black dress that is our go-to year-round; however, what about a little denim dress?

A denim dress is just as classic as a black one, it can be dressed up or down, and it holds a special vintage element that totally SCREAMS the late 1960s and 70s. Although the idea of wearing a denim dress might bring back nightmares of the 1990s, this beauty from Forever 21 is hardly a fashion mistake from Saved By the Bell. *wink*

So, for this week’s fabulous Weekly Whistle, I am swapping my little black dress for a little denim one. ALSO…check out the VIP’s new ‘do *wink* Thanks, Courtney Bennet of Salon Confidence, for dolling me up for a short, spring change-up with my hair. Now, without further ado, take a look at this week’s Weekly Whistle outfit + photos taken in the wonderful downtown of Johnson City, Tennessee.

Three Ways to Wear: Bright Yellow, Boho Blouse

IMG_1681

One of my absolute favorite colors to wear is yellow because it is such a happy and fun hue that truly POPS with whatever it is paired. But one problem with bright yellow pieces is they are so stately–which makes it hard to mix them up and people not notice. So…how does as fashionista get versatile outfits without jeopardizing her love of bright yellow?

On this week’s fabulous Three Ways to Wear Thursday, I am going to show y’all how yellow is a lovely hue that is really quite easy to get a lot of wear out of. So, without further ado, let’s check out this week’s TWTWT!

Look 1:

One of the most fabulous color combos is sunshine and cobalt! I have been crushing on this sweet color match since the blog started in 2012. Don’t believe me? *wink* Well, check out the throwback post here.

Look 3:

AHH! Wildcard outfits are my ABSOLUTE favorite thing because they are an opportunity to really break into a unique style that fits and flatters your tastes. For me, I love mixing together the unthinkable.

So, for look 3, I combined a red/pink/black floral skirt with the bright yellow boho blouse for a look that is truly me and fabulous. What would be YOUR wildcard look with this blouse?

Weekly Whistle: Vintage-Inspired Trendy Outfits from Forever 21

IMG_1653

Trends…trends…trends–they come…they go…they repeat, just like history!

So, how does a fashionista keep up with the trends while still having her own unique style? Well–let me answer that for you *wink*

On a recent trip to the mall, I went into Forever 21 just to browse. While shopping around, I stumbled upon some vintage-inspired pieces that I just had to have. The following four items were being considered as hot “new” trends when, in fact, the styles are anything but new *wink* The colors, the necklines, the buttons, the everything are little repeats of pivotal trends from the 60s and 70s.

And I rest my case *wink* These ensembles are from the 70s. Pay close attention to the green skirt on the left, the socks with heels, and the button details on the skirts on the far right. See the resemblance? Oh, how I do love fashion history :)

Now, before I go off on a fashion history lecture *wink* let’s take a look at this week’s Weekly Whistle which includes two–YES, TWO–fabulous outfits *wink*

Look 1:

When I first tried this look on together, I thought it looked like something a modern Nancy Drew would wear. What do y’all think? *wink*

Look 2:

This look gives a more 1970s feel with the colors and boho vibe of the blouse + the skirt reminds me SO much of the green skirt pictured in the vintage picture!

Weekly Whistle: Emerald n’ Gold

IMG_1553

Last week on Weekly Whistle, I chatted about how rust and emerald have always been my color sweethearts. If you missed the post, check it out here–you don’t want to be behind *wink*

Taking a little bit of inspiration from last week’s throwbacks + a fabulous necklace I just finished making, I decided this week’s outfit of the week should be all about gold and emerald! Oh…there is just something about how emerald pairs so elegantly with rich hues like rust and different metallics. I remember several years ago, I had this fabulous emerald dress, and I wore it with practically with everything under the sun *wink* Hm…I wonder where that post is on the blog? *stalking myself* HERE WE GO!

Ahh–this brings back sweet memories! This was when I was living in Birmingham and working with the Outlet Shops of Grand River for events and the Grand Haul Girl video series! Check out the post here.

Seeing this dress again makes me feel like I might have to dust it off for some future closet-shopping blogs, but I digress *wink*

Let’s get back to this week’s Weekly Whistle *wink* Check it out below:

Weekly Whistle: Rust + Rose Quartz + Velvet Floral

IMG_1404

For those of you who have been following my blog since the beginning (it will be four years tomorrow–CELEBRATE! *happy dance*), you know just how obsessed I am with funky blazers. From bright, graphic prints to velvet floral ones–I cannot turn down a blazer that has a spunky personality *wink* Oh, and to think…it all started with a turquoise blazer I stumbled upon at Urban Outfitters about five years ago! It was love at first sight…and then I quickly spun out of fashionable control *wink*

This blazer is still one of my favorites ever!

Now, for this week’s fabulous Weekly Whistle, I am playing with warm and pastel hues + a super-duper lovely velvet floral blazer. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at this week’s outfit of the week!
