Weekly Whistle: Vintage-Inspired Trendy Outfits from Forever 21

IMG_1653

Trends…trends…trends–they come…they go…they repeat, just like history!

So, how does a fashionista keep up with the trends while still having her own unique style? Well–let me answer that for you *wink*

On a recent trip to the mall, I went into Forever 21 just to browse. While shopping around, I stumbled upon some vintage-inspired pieces that I just had to have. The following four items were being considered as hot “new” trends when, in fact, the styles are anything but new *wink* The colors, the necklines, the buttons, the everything are little repeats of pivotal trends from the 60s and 70s.

And I rest my case *wink* These ensembles are from the 70s. Pay close attention to the green skirt on the left, the socks with heels, and the button details on the skirts on the far right. See the resemblance? Oh, how I do love fashion history :)

Now, before I go off on a fashion history lecture *wink* let’s take a look at this week’s Weekly Whistle which includes two–YES, TWO–fabulous outfits *wink*

Look 1:

When I first tried this look on together, I thought it looked like something a modern Nancy Drew would wear. What do y’all think? *wink*

Blouse: Forever 21 | Skirt: Forever 21 | Necklace: BluKatDesign  | Bracelet: BlueGrits  | Clutch: Kate Spade | Heels: BCBG | Glasses: prescription *wink*

Look 2:

This look gives a more 1970s feel with the colors and boho vibe of the blouse + the skirt reminds me SO much of the green skirt pictured in the vintage picture!

How-To Dress Stately | Kate Spade Chambray Bow Blouse

IMG_0504

I am 100% of a sucker for stately clothes–especially pieces that can be worn year-round. So, when I got this AH-MAZING Kate Spade chambray bow blouse for my birthday last week, I 100% jumped for joy! Oh, y’all–I was happier than a 14 year old girl with front row tickets for a Justin Bieber concert *wink*

At first, I was a little skeptical about the bow being so close to my face because usually things that close make my face look fat/round; however, I tossed my hair up + put on some glitzy earrings and TAH DAHHH….fabulousness! The texture of this lovely chambray top is soft and not scratchy, and surprisingly, it pairs effortlessly with lots of different things in my closet! From jeans and clogs to party skirts and vintage-inspired oxfords, this Kate Spade chambray bow top has become one of my stately wardrobe staples in less than a week’s time!

*fangirl scream* I love this Kate Spade blouse SO SO SOOOOO much, and I am pretty sure I could wear it everyday, everywhere, and with anything, BUT instead, I will just do a VIP Three Ways to Wear later *wink*

Now, without further ado, take a look at the photos, outfit details, and a VIP fashion tip below!

VIP Fashion Tip For Styling Stately Pieces

When styling stately pieces for the office or brunch with friends, it is important to remember to play down the other elements of your outfit. Doing this will help you create a chic ensemble that will have everyone looking twice *wink* For accessories, go minimalistic. If you want to add a little sparkle, keep it simple like with the glitzy studs I am wearing in today’s outfit.

Three Ways to Wear: Vintage Pink

IMG_9519

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Long before I became “the VIP”, I was pulling items from my closet and styling pieces multiple ways to give the impression that I “never wore the same thing twice”. I didn’t want my style to be trendy and disposable–I wanted it to be classy and reusable. Sure–I bought trendy/seasonal items that I later donated to the local Salvation Army, but I did not and never have “re-wardrobed” my closet after each season.

I was always taught when you get something new, you donate or give away something else…but that it isn’t always easy for a clothes hoarder like myself *wink* So, I try to invest in really cool wardrobe pieces, and before purchasing, I ask myself, “Can I wear this more than one way? What about three ways?”. And thus…VIP Three Ways to Wear was born *wink*

For a little Throwback Thursday action, check out the VIP’s first Three Ways to Wear post here from February 2012 *gasp* That was such a long time ago…and man, was my hair long!

Now, without further ado, take a look at this week’s TWTWT to see how I styled the vintage gem from yesterday’s post.
