Beauty Tues: Easy Double-Wing Eyeliner + How-To Apply Tips

IMG_0165

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome to Beauty Tues.

Last week on Beauty Tues, I talked about some of the crazy makeup trends for Fall 2015. If you missed my horribly hilarious application of the runway-to-real-life trends, click here–you won’t regret it *wink*

For this week on VIP Beauty Tues, I want to talk about a doable eyeliner trend–the double wing. Even though I am no makeup maven or trained artist, I was able to do this look without a lot of fussing, fighting or eye makeup remover *wink*

In my research about double-wing eyeliner, I discovered a lot of people are taking it to the next level by using different colored liners, rhinestones, and doing things that I would need a stencil for *wink* BUT as most of you Beauty Tues followers know, the whole idea behind VIP Beauty Tues is to make beauty easy and doable because in the real world, we have bigger things about which to worry like getting to work on time or acing an exam. SO, below, you will find some nifty tricks on how to ace double-wing eyeliner + I spill the beans about my favorite liquid eyeliner that is cheap, but it works like a dream ♥

Prime your eyes first: Through lots of trial and error, I found out that using an eyeshadow primer all over the lid (or areas in which liner will be applied) helps in creating the perfect wing or cateye. It also acts as “insurance”–keeping your beautiful wings looking perfect all day sans smudging or smearing. My eyeshadow primer preference is the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion here.

♦ Get close to the mirror (or use a compact): This might be a “duh” for some of us; however, I have learned the power of getting up close and personal with my bathroom mirror in my experimenting with different eyeliner tricks *wink* We beauty queens will do whatever it takes to have the straightest and perfectly winged eyeliner *fist in air*

♦ Find your liner-mate: This is CRUCIAL! With soooo many different liquid and pencil eyeliners on the market it can be a bit challenging to pick which best suits your needs. So, go to your local drug store, Sephora, or Ulta and pick a few different ones to try. Don’t fall for the ol’ brand-name trick with this one because the most expensive just might not be the best. In my case, I tried some of the most expensive liquid liners, but fell head-over-heels for the Sephora brand long-lasting 12HR Wear eyeliner (and it’s only $12 *GASP*). Check out it out below:

Beauty Tues: Get the Look–Layered Creme Eye Shadows

IMG_5480

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to Beauty Tues.

For this week’s beauty post, I would like to share a fabulous look with y’all where I pushed my makeup application skills and layered three creme eye shadows. Phew…I was super scared this was going to go terribly wrong; however, to my surprise, it was super easy! Come on, let’s take a gander at the look + what you will need to achieve it at home :)

To create the eye look, I used Benefit's "Birthday Suit" creme eye shadow as my base color ad Benefit's "My Two Cents" creme eye shadow in the crease because it is complementary to the Laura Mercier I used on the outer-corner of the lid.
To create the eye look, I used Benefit’s “Birthday Suit” creme eye shadow as the base color, Benefit’s “My Two Cents” creme eye shadow as the crease color, and Laura Mercier “Burnished Copper  Metallic” eye creme on the outer corner of the lid.
TIP: The key to blending all the shades together is "buffing". Take a round-tipped brush and gently buff the colors together in tiny circular motions. Remember...wax on, wax off *wink*
TIP: The key to blending all the shades together is “buffing”. Take a round-tipped brush and gently buff the colors together in tiny circular motions. Keep in mind that the more you “buff” the lighter the colors will become and the more they will blend….Night-time look=less buffing….Day-time look(pictured)=more buffing.
To line the eyes, I decided to mix things up and swap my normal gray eyeliner for Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in "Violet Ink 4". The deep purple hue really made the bronze-colored eye cremes POP!

Last but not least--the lips. AH! The lipstick is always my favorite part...you could say I am a bit obsessed*wink*
Last but not least–the lips. AH! The lipstick is always my favorite part…you could say I am a bit obsessed with lip color*wink*
TIP: The key to lipstick that doesn't run is a good complementary hue lip liner. For this look, I lined my lips with Lancome's Le Crayon in "Plum". I colored in the pout of my lip with the "plum" liner before applying Lancome's L'Absolu lipstick in "Berry Silhouette" to add a pout affect.
TIP: The key to lipstick that doesn’t “run” is a good matching lip liner. For this look, I lined my lips with Lancome’s Le Crayon in “Plum”. I colored in “the pout” or the middle of my upper and lower lip with the “plum” liner before applying Lancome’s L’Absolu lipstick in “Berry Silhouette”. Also, another great thing about lip liner is that it can be applied like a lipstick. Given, it is a bit more time consuming, but it creates a matte look that survives several Starbucks.
TAH DAH! The final look:)

Beauty Tues.: Prime, Pucker & Paint (A step-by-step tutorial for Lip Tar lip color)

IMG_6293

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to Beauty Tues.

Today in VIP Beauty News , I have a fabulously amazing new lip color to share with y’all–it is from the creative geniuses of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, a 100% Vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free makeup company.

One thing I love is bright lips–I hardly leave the house without adorning my lips with a bold lip color. So, when I stumbled upon the OCC Lip Tar product line at Sephora–it was love at first sight. With so many gluten-free, long-wearing lip liners and colors avaliable, I had a hard time deciding on which one to try first. After lots of debate, I finally decided to go with the light and bright shade of pink “Anime,” which had a matching lip liner. *kiss* Perfecto!

If you have never tried or owned Lip Tar, I must warn you to not toss out the tiny lip brush that comes in the resealable pouch because you WILL NEED it to apply the liquid lip color AND don’t toss out the handy resealable pouch because it is perfect for keeping the Lip Tar and its brush safe and sound. Also, if you try to apply it with your fingers, there is a possibility that you might end up looking like a circus clown rather than having a perfectly painted pout…and I should know *wink*

IMG_6302

Tip: Priming your lips with the OCC clear primer is a big key to painting the perfect pout with Lip Tar–do not forget to give your lips about a minute to absorb the primer before applying your desired Lip Tar color. The OCC clear Lip Tar not only helps color last longer, but it also makes applying lip color a breeze.

Achieving the perfect pout takes a bit more effort than movies make it out to be–It is never as simple as whipping out your lipstick, flicking off the top, and putting it on sans mirror…I learned that at a very young age *wink* (See blog post here).

Tip: Invest in lip liners that complement your favorite bold lip colors–this is another easy trick that will bring you one step closer to having irresistibly kissable lips.

Tip: When painting on your Lip Tar lip color, ONLY apply one  small dot at a time to the brush–because one dot goes a long way. If you get too much, it is merely impossible to use it all without making a total mess.

Oh, wow! Look at you now–don’t you look marvelous thanks to this VIP step-by-step tutorial *wink*

Now, I want to give y’all a little sneaky peeky of the lipstick brands that will be featured on the VIP March Madness Selfie Series–Chanel, Lancome, Guerlain, and more! Speaking of Guerlain…Did you know that Fiat and Guerlain partnered to create 250 limited edition Fiat 500/500Cs inspired by Guerlain’s La Petite Robe Noire perfume? OMG…I think I am in love. When purchasing  one of the limited edition Fiats, buyers will also get a Guerlain makeup kit, 100 mL of La Petite Robe Noire, 30 mL of Velvet Body Milk, black mascara, nail lacquer, and Teracotta 4 Seasons in Tint Nude powder. Oh, this is so perfect…I love Fiat and Guerlain! Could it get any better? I am pretty sure I have found my dream car; however, these limited edition Fiats have been designed exclusively for the French market *sad face* A girl can dream…right?

Now, let’s get down to the nitty gritty with some awesome lip tips from the fabulous makeup experts at Saks Fifth Avenue Birmingham!

1.  Apply bold or dark lipsticks with a lip brush to help prevent the color from bleeding. No one likes lipstick bleeding…yuck.

2.  Nude lips are like pearls–they go with everything; however, finding a nude lipstick shade that flatters your skin color is key. If you are unsure which nude hues work for you, ask a makeup specialist :)

3.  There are so many different shades of lipstick out there, so why should we limit ourselves to just one or two? Hm…we shouldn’t! Branch out and buy that orange lipstick you have been fan girling over in the latest issue of InStyle! Tell yourself YOU CAN work that color–just imagine the office hallways as runways…you got this! *fist in the air*

Saks Fifth Avenue Birmingham’s Beauty Week Girls’ Night Out + Makeup Tips

unnamed (7)

Last night at S5A Birmingham’s Beauty Week Girls’ Night Out, I was thrilled to be Tamarous Reynolds’s beauty model for the mini makeup sessions. It was so much fun getting dolled up by Tamarous, and it was also so much fun getting to learn more about different skincare, makeup brushes, and application techniques from the experts–Tasha Deyampert and Tamarous Reynolds.

I am no makeup maven, nor do I claim to be.~~~*Flashback*~~~ For a large chunk of my childhood, I wore winged eyeliner, fake eyelashes, and bright red lipstick with my hair slicked back in the tightest ballet bun possible–not because I was constantly playing dress up in my mother’s closet–even though I did that a lot, but because I was a dancer.  Throughout junior high, my daily makeup routine consisted of concealer, one “nude” eye shadow, mascara, and maybe some lip balm. For some reason, I was afraid to not only wear makeup, but I was also afraid to experiment with it. I had this deep fear of being made fun of in junior high because…well, that’s a story for another day *wink*

Through VIP, I have met fabulous MUAs who have helped me “grow up” my makeup without growing it up too much or looking like a Kardashian wannabe–that’s never good. Only the Kardashians can be the Kardashians–I digress. Needless to say, I have had my fair share of makeup fails, and because I do not not want y’all to struggle as I have…I am going to share with y’all some of the tips and tricks I learned from S5A Birmingham’s Beauty Week Girls’ Night Out! Yay!

  1. Eye shadow primer helps keep your eye shadow in place all day. It also smooths out the color of the lid so that the shadow color can really pop. Experiment with different primers to find the one that’s right for you. Don’t be afraid to ask for samples or to chat with a beauty expert about your needs.

  2. There are trends in cosmetics just like there are trends in clothes. You have to find a makeup trend that fits your personality and flatters your face. Don’t be afraid to experiment and have some fun with a new color or product.

  3. Always start with eyes first to prevent messes later.

  4. Good quality makeup brushes are the key to makeup success. Invest in the right brushes to do the job you need them to do. As my dad explained it, you would not use a hammer to do a screwdriver’s job…in fashionista words, do not use an eye shadow brush to apply foundation.

  5. Before committing to buying a foundation, ask for samples so that you can try different brands and formulas until you find the perfect one. Remember the beauty experts at Saks are there to help guide you through this important decision because no one wants to end up with the orange ring of death *wink*

Stay tuned on Tuesdays in March for more tips and tricks that I learned from the beauty experts at Saks. Be sure to follow me on Instagram because in March I am going to have a very special series…of selfies…involving…I can’t tell you yet *wink* Hurry, click here to follow! :)
