There is (almost) nothing better than oversized sweatshirts when the weather outside is frightfully chilly, and one of my favorite places to find unique sweatshirts is thrift and consignment shops. *gasp* SAY WHAT?! Yes–that’s right! You wouldn’t believe how many awesome sweatshirts I have found at various thrift stores in my life. In fact, MY FAVORITE sweatshirt ever came from a thrift store in Starkville, Mississippi for $1…ONE DOLLAR!
Now, to celebrate the dreadfully crazy winter storm that is headed this way, let’s warm up with three ways to wear thrifted sweatshirts + some epic throwbacks *wink*
Long before I became “the VIP”, I was pulling items from my closet and styling pieces multiple ways to give the impression that I “never wore the same thing twice”. I didn’t want my style to be trendy and disposable–I wanted it to be classy and reusable. Sure–I bought trendy/seasonal items that I later donated to the local Salvation Army, but I did not and never have “re-wardrobed” my closet after each season.
I was always taught when you get something new, you donate or give away something else…but that it isn’t always easy for a clothes hoarder like myself *wink* So, I try to invest in really cool wardrobe pieces, and before purchasing, I ask myself, “Can I wear this more than one way? What about three ways?”. And thus…VIP Three Ways to Wear was born *wink*
For a little Throwback Thursday action, check out the VIP’s first Three Ways to Wear posthere from February 2012 *gasp* That was such a long time ago…and man, was my hair long!
Now, without further ado, take a look at this week’s TWTWT to see how I styled the vintage gem fromyesterday’s post.
This week’s Weekly Whistle is SUPER special because I am revealing my SUPER amazing, vintage Kimono that I got from EBV on Etsy. AH! I mean…how darn fabulous is this dress, y’all?! *jaw drop*
Rather than me babbling on and on about how much I ADORE this dress, I am going to let the Kimono + photos speak for themselves *wink* Take a look at this week’s Weekly Whistle outfit photo shoot + ensemble details below :)
Phew…we’ve made it to Thursday, y’all! Just one more day until the weekend–I think we got this fabulous (and stressful) week in the bag! *wink*
Speaking of bags…the VIP has lots in store for y’all on this week’s TWTWT, so let’s get it started *cue Black Eyed Peas* Be sure to stay tuned to the bottom of the blog for a very special announcement about a fab event the VIP will be hosting this weekend! Hm….I wonder what it could be?!
For this week’s TWTWT challenge, I took my new eyelet skirt from JC Penny and wore it three fabulous ways. The special thing about this TWTWT is that I show you how simply tucking in/untucking a blouse can create two looks EFFORTLESSLY. Who would have thought?! Ah…my favorite–cute and effortless fashion *wink*
I sported this lucky outfit on St. Patrick’s Day this year; however, I did not share it on the blog. I love the stark contrast of solid shamrock and basic black + I am always looking for an excuse to sport my green kitten heels! *wink*
The VIP is going to be a guest blogger host at the #BelkScene Prom and Special Occasion event at the Belk Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham, Alabama this Saturday (April 11). YAY! How fun! I will be at the Saturday Scene event offering up my style advice + talking about the fabulous prom trends–from fabulous dresses to sweet shoes! Speaking of shoes…I will be wearing some pretty cute and comfy Steve Maddens, so stop by to see my shoes + how I will be wearing them *wink* Small hint: they are perfect for dancing!
There will be a live DJ (I will, of course, have to take a dance break in my Steve Maddens*wink*), sweet treats, and models showcasing the best of the best trends from brands like Jessica Simpson, Steve Madden, Unlisted, Adrianna Papell, and MORE! So, Birmingham fans–come out and see the VIP at the Belk Riverchase Galleria for a terrific time, fun fashions, and apparel tips! Cannot wait to see y’all there!

Raleigh, NC (Crabtree Valley Mall) with guest blogger Sara Steadman of Sara Kate Styling–her blog is THE CUTEST. Love it so much!
From my personal style to my home decor, old films play a huge role in my inspirations. Two of my favorite movies, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Pretty in Pink, have played a pivotal role in this week’s theme of “My Things for Spring”. From Marilyn’s powerful pink gown to Molly’s magnificent prom dress–I just cannot get enough of pink! So, to get the best of both worlds, I blended my love of pink + 80s slouchy style to create looks that are fresh, bold, and totally spring *wink*
Another big inspiration for the week of “My Thing for Spring” is Lana Del Rey. I fell in love with her unique sound several years ago, and I fell in love with her vintage-inspired style shortly thereafter. From sweet florals and pastels to subtle slouch and grunge, Lana Del Rey is the true definition of a modern-day style icon. I cannot help but feel inspired when listening to her music or when watching her music videos. She is able to paint a picture not only with her lyrics, but also with her music and style–that is talent…that is inspiring. Check out one of my favorite Lana Del Rey music videos below.
