Weekly Whistle: How to Dress for Hot-Cold Weather in Style

IMG_1870

Is it just me, or does it seem like winter weather keeps creeping into the forecast? *sigh* I am so ready for consistently hot weather; however, it seems nowhere in sight. So, how do we fabulous fashionistas dress-to-impress in this outrageously hot-cold weather? WELL…I am so glad you asked *wink*

We all have a winter-to-spring wardrobe, but it is all about knowing what to do and how to do it. So, for this week’s fabulous Weekly Whistle, I am going to show y’all a simple outfit on how-to dress for hot-cold weather in style + give a few VIP quick tips. So, without further ado, let’s get this party started! *hit it DJ!*

  • Play It Slow: Think about your transitional outfit like a crush on a cute, shy guy–you don’t want to jump in too quickly and make things awkward, so you play it step-by-step. Now, in the case of an outfit, you do not want to run straight into wearing light sun dresses and open-toe sandals, so reach for a cute pair of colorful shorts and a chunky sweater instead. This gives you a fabulously springy look without freezing to death when the wind blows *wink*
  • Be a Layering Queen: I am the worst at this because growing up in the Deep South, layering was never really needed; however, living in Northeast Tennessee has taught me the power of knowing how to layer–especially when the seasons are changing. It is important during hot-cold weather to plan an outfit layer-by-layer in order to be comfortable from day to night. It is best to think about your outfit in segments, so that as the temperature rises throughout the day, you can shed your layers and show your true, spring colors! And when the temperature goes down with the sun, you can easily add back a light jacket or cardigan to stay all warm and cozy. :)

Weekly Whistle: Emerald n’ Gold

IMG_1553

Last week on Weekly Whistle, I chatted about how rust and emerald have always been my color sweethearts. If you missed the post, check it out here–you don’t want to be behind *wink*

Taking a little bit of inspiration from last week’s throwbacks + a fabulous necklace I just finished making, I decided this week’s outfit of the week should be all about gold and emerald! Oh…there is just something about how emerald pairs so elegantly with rich hues like rust and different metallics. I remember several years ago, I had this fabulous emerald dress, and I wore it with practically with everything under the sun *wink* Hm…I wonder where that post is on the blog? *stalking myself* HERE WE GO!

Ahh–this brings back sweet memories! This was when I was living in Birmingham and working with the Outlet Shops of Grand River for events and the Grand Haul Girl video series! Check out the post here.

Seeing this dress again makes me feel like I might have to dust it off for some future closet-shopping blogs, but I digress *wink*

Let’s get back to this week’s Weekly Whistle *wink* Check it out below:

Emerald Dress: Shopping in Your Own Closet

IMG_2707

Emerald, the 2013 Color of the Year, is “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony,” says www.pantone.com

Funny story–I bought my emerald green dress at The Fashion Barn in Columbus, Mississippi in fall of 2012 for some holiday events…Well, I guess that wasn’t a funny story…Who would have thought my darling emerald green dress would be Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year! Hmm…did I mysteriously start this trend? I guess we will never know….this reminds me of the hundreds of times I tried to find out how many licks it took to get to the center of those Tootsie Roll Pops…I guess we will never know that either…Whatever was I talking about…? Oh, yes!  My emerald dress.

When I was invited to attend the Shamrocking and Shopping down the Emerald Aisles at the Shops of Grand River in Leeds, Alabama [March 15-17], I knew exactly what I was going to wear-my extraordinary emerald green dress! Oh, it was the perfect St. Patty’s Day celebration frock!

The Shamrocking and Shopping event featured wonderful family activities to bring the “Luck of the Irish” to everyone celebrating the St. Patty’s Day Weekend! To see more of this event, check out the video here!
