Weekly Whistle: Simple Southern Style

IMG_2500

For those of you who have been following VIP since the beginning, y’all know that I started the blog when I was living in the middle of nowhere in Mississippi struggling with Hughes Net *wink* While a lot has changed in four years, and I have since moved to Birmingham, Alabama and now Johnson City, Tennessee, I still hold true to my classy Southern roots.

Being reared in a Southern home, I witnessed some of the most fabulous fashions from my momma, grandmothers, and great Aunt Jo and Judy. There’s no denying their Southern Belle lifestyle rubbed off on me–I always say yes ma’am and no ma’am, I have too many pearl necklaces, and I am a sucker for a tall glass of sweet tea *wink*

So, for this week’s Weekly Whistle ensemble, I am embracing simple Southern style with a steal-of-a-deal Simply Southern tunic blouse I picked up on my mini road trip to Asheville. Check out the outfit details + awesome photos below taken in downtown Johnson City, Tennessee.

Three Ways to Wear: Vintage Pink

IMG_9519

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Long before I became “the VIP”, I was pulling items from my closet and styling pieces multiple ways to give the impression that I “never wore the same thing twice”. I didn’t want my style to be trendy and disposable–I wanted it to be classy and reusable. Sure–I bought trendy/seasonal items that I later donated to the local Salvation Army, but I did not and never have “re-wardrobed” my closet after each season.

IMG_9515

I was always taught when you get something new, you donate or give away something else…but that it isn’t always easy for a clothes hoarder like myself *wink* So, I try to invest in really cool wardrobe pieces, and before purchasing, I ask myself, “Can I wear this more than one way? What about three ways?”. And thus…VIP Three Ways to Wear was born *wink*

For a little Throwback Thursday action, check out the VIP’s first Three Ways to Wear post here from February 2012 *gasp* That was such a long time ago…and man, was my hair long!

Now, without further ado, take a look at this week’s TWTWT to see how I styled the vintage gem from yesterday’s post.

Three Ways To Wear Thursday: Vintage, Statement Kimono

IMG_9368

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Yesterday, I introduced y’all to my lovely, vintage kimono, and today, I am going to show y’all TWO MORE WAYS TO WEAR IT! Ah! Perfection.

When I first fell in love with this frock, I asked myself how I could wear it more than one way–I try not to invest in too many solo statement pieces because I like to get a lot of wear out of my clothes…especially the really cool items like this bright-red kimono *wink* So, for this week’s TWTWT, I decided to challenge myself with three ways to wear my snazzy, old-new Kimono from EBV! Y’all take a look at all the fabulousness below *wink*

Way One:

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Thank goodness, it is Friday! Phew…it has been a long, stressful week–so, what better way to kick off the weekend than with a new VIP series! Whoo hoo!

Frugal Friday will be a weekly series featuring frugal outfit ideas, home decor, and great deals I find–it will always be a surprise! *wink*. Frugal Friday is all about fun, frugality and fabulousness–does it get any better than that?! *P.S. Oh, how I adore alliteration *wink*

IMG_5752

For the very first Frugal Friday post, I shopped in my own closet and created a sweet, Southern style outfit that is perfect for Friday night bonfires…cute dinner dates…sassy square dancing…or even grocery shopping–that is what I did tonight while wearing this outfit *wink* Oh, yeah! Living on the wild side! *wink*

Now, as I snack on these delicious banana chips from Earth Fare, let’s take a look at the snazzy outfit details.

I Was Born In a Small Town, Grew Up In a Small Town

IMG_5133

It has been a tough week for my small, hometown of Louisville, Mississippi and the surrounding areas. This time last week, none of us dreamed of the devastation and destruction that would take place…This time last week, high school seniors were preparing for their final days of school, athletic banquets were being planned, a child was committing his life to the Lord, a daycare worker was resting up so she could tend to her beloved children, and doctors were taking care of their patients inside the county hospital. It was all the usual and the normal…this time last week.

But…there is a silver lining…there is hope for a better future…a brighter future…because my hometown…my small town…those small, rural communities…came together…worked together…help flooded in from all around…near and far…to lend a hand…to prepare meals, to deliver supplies…to help make way for a better, brighter future. No tornado will rob us of our Southern hospitality…of our love for one another…NOPE. Stay Strong, Winston County.

Before I just start uncontrollably crying…again…Let us turn our attention to someone who explains growing up and loving a small town…and who does that better than John Mellencamp! *SIDE NOTE* The following pictures are from a photo shoot at my Gran’s house. She lives on the outskirts of Louisville…and on the outskirts of Noxapater…This blog is dedicated to all small towns and communities. God Bless Small Towns!

Small Town

by: John Mellencamp

Well, I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Prob’ly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities

IMG_5167
All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity

IMG_5156

Educated in a small town
Taught the fear of Jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another boring romantic that’s me

IMG_5200
But I’ve seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an L.A. doll and brought her to this small town
Now, she’s small town just like me

IMG_5188
No, I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be

IMG_5161
Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look who’s in the big town
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, and that’s good enough for me

IMG_5192

Well, I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
And that’s prob’ly where they’ll bury me
