Beauty Tues: The Best Products to Help You Get Ready for Spring

IMG_1917

Oh, y’all! The weather over the past few days has been absolutely to-die-for! The warm sunshine has me all in the mood for SPRING! SPRING! SPRING!

Now, even though I am mentally ready for spring–I am not physically ready for spring *wink* What do I mean? Well, my hair, my nails, my toenails, and skin are NOT ready for humidity, open toe sandals, and shorts galore. *sigh* What’s a girl to do?!

Well–butter me up and call me a biscuit because this blog post is the answer to (most) of your winter hair, nail and skin problems! For this week’s fabulous Beauty Tues, I am going to talk about five, budget-friendly, miracle products that will help all of us get ready for spring. So, without further ado, let’s hop to it!

1. At-home Mani

I am no nail expert, but I have learned tricks to making the most out of doing my nails at home. Usually, I get about two or three manicures a year. I would love to get one every month; however, that isn’t exactly logical for my schedule and budget *wink*

SO, for the months when making a nail appointment doesn’t work out, I go to this fabulous Fill The Gap Base Coat-Smoothing formula from Essie. It helps repair my nails even in their worse condition + this treatment helps to better my nails before going to the salon for a manicure.

2. Tip-toe Shape

Let’s face it…we probably all get a little self-conscious about our toes when going in for a manicure–I know I do! I always wonder what the nail artist will think about my nails, and this fabulous product Sally Hansen helps relieve some of that worry *wink*

Sally Hansen Cuticle Eraser + Balm helps to gently remove unwanted cuticles while also supplying moisture, unlike a lot of cuticle removing products. This is one of my favorite products for winter-to-spring nail repair.

Note: This product can also be used on the fingernails.

3. Good-bye Flyaways and Frizz

With the prettier, spring weather comes more humidity, and let’s just say that my natural curls do not exactly like that shift *wink*

Over the years, I have tried many different anti-frizz products, and while many of them worked, NONE of them worked as well as the Bumble and bumble. hairdresser’s invisible oil! A lot of anti-frizz products cause hair to be dull and even appear slightly oily; however, that is not the case with the B&b hairdresser’s oil. It is a miracle product that I never thought I would fall head-over-heels for!

4. Soften-Up

I am the world’s worst when it comes to applying lotion throughout the day, so this Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Lotion is a lifesaver–or shall I say skin-saver! From razor burn to dry patches, this lotion takes my dull winter skin to moisturized spring-ready skin! Give it a try–I think you might like it *wink*

5. Pucker-Up Buttercup

There is no denying how rough winter weather is on our lips–the constant chapped lips and windburn really take a toll on the texture of our lips. This simple DIY lip scrub inexpensively removes all that dry skin + helps you get softer lips without even leaving your house! Check out the VIP video below.

Kicking Off Spring Style with Belk and Arlene Goldstein

IMG_4821

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog on the first day of spring! Whoo hoo!

Oh, spring has finally sprung which means it is time to go on a spring shopping haul! After the crazy, up-and-down winter weather we had, I am beyond excited to swap the big coats, chunky sweaters, and UGG boots for lightweight cardigans, flowy dresses, and sassy sandals. Now, before we go out and buy our spring wardrobe, let’s take a look at the Spring 2014 Fashion Forecast, courtesy of Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s Vice President of Trend Mechandising and Fashion Direction. (Pst…remember when the VIP interviewed Arlene?  To celebrate Throwback Thursday, let’s take a look back at the VIP interview here and learn more about the fabulous fashion expert!)

Spring 2014 fashion is all about creating a statement style with pieces that look and feel fabulously modern with a dash of classic. Before we kick off spring shopping, let’s check the fashion weather. This season, Arlene Goldstein is predicting light showers of dazzling jewelry, wind gusts of statement shoes, and a monsoon of must-have apparel items. Fierce florals and feminine charms will be in full bloom as exotic fabrics and clean lines take fashionista closets by storm. So, let’s grab our trendy umbrellas and hit the stores fully prepared to locate the hot trends below:

Feminine Charms

From ultra-romantic to chic eccentric with a femme flare, this [Feminine Charms] is a fashion story that delivers a dynamic aura. Expect looks to exude elegance with oversized ruffles, fit-and-flare silhouettes, appliqued petals and new, longer lengths. Heavy lace, luminescent layers and sheer fabrics easily finesse any look, and florals are flawless along with dots, swirls and pattern mixes.

Step into the limelight with add-ons that offer everything from whimsy to clever practicality. Not-so-proper pearls, floral motif jewelry, shiny gold finishes, chain bags, clutches and single-sole pumps are just a few essentials.

Jetsetter

“As a style statement, Jetsetter always says ‘yes,’ to a tribal twist with a multi-cultural mix,” notes Goldstein. Neutrals–especially khakis and greens–need no introduction. Details of the Jetsetter trend includes both utility and handcrafted elements such as zips, pockets, studs and grommets along with ornate embellishments, tassels, fringe and frayed edges.

Jacquards, silks, sheers, linen and washed poplin are just a few of the textiles that inspire this indisputably cool glam gal. Artsy camo, lkats, new tropicals and scenics are some of the flawlessly executed patterns that add to the spirit of adventure that is so relevant to this trend. Layers of jewelry, natural leathers, burnished metals, embellished totes and new gladiators give this trend the polish and panache it definitely deserves, effortlessly chic and natural.

Clean Slate

Clean Slate touts strong sculptural shapes and understated elegance, causing minimal chic to have maximum impact. Check out A-line silhouettes, asymmetric detailing and architectural lines, and anticipate an ultra-modern makeover with sportif touches that add an off-duty edginess.

Textiles are interesting and innovative with cheer, metallic finishes and New Age synthetics that offer sleek chic at its best. Bold patterns blaze with photorealisms, stripes, color blocking, exaggerated geos and digital designs–the simplest ideas are the best and anything graphic goes a long way.

The accessories in Clean Slate say it all. Count on items with a contemporary feel–mirror metallics, boxy shaped handbags (clutches, totes, satchels), strong cuffs and geometric pendants, multi rings, chunky heels and anything color blocked because it is strong and powerful.

A storm ‘s a brewin’…the flood waters are a risin’…the levee ‘s a breakin’…one eerie Mississippi night.  All the citizens, doctors, law enforcement, and even “the help” has fled for them higher grounds…except for one lost soul…soon to be joined by two mo’, who seems to be runnin’ toward the danger instead of aways from it… now two half brothers with the same father and totally different mothers and a show business woman transformed into a motherly bride battle it out to see who will gain control of the land.  It’s a testy scrimmage of wits, lust, and who-can-drink-who under the table…these three characters are racing against time.

The waters keep a risin’ and so does the fear and madness amongst this disgruntled household. What will happen? Will they all make it out alive? Who will get this sacred house and land valued at more than $50,000?  You, tell me.  Go see the astonishing performance of Tennessee Williams’ Kingdom of Earth in Columbus, Mississippi, April 9-13 at 7:30pm to find out.

Miss VIP chatting with the director about how she began her start in the theatre business. I will have a VIP Interview with Director M.J. Etua on my YouTube channel soon...so, stay tuned:)

Kingdom of Earth is truly a breathtaking, twisting turn of events play written by renowned American playwright, Tennessee Williams.  Director M.J. Etua made the Tennessee Williams Tribute (TWT) proud as she took on this terrific project to portray Tennessee Williams’ vision of mass controversy set in 1960 in a rural town in the Magnolia State (Mississippi).

Isa Stratton Beaulieu (Set Design), Kay Manzilillo (Costume and Set Decor), Melissa Duncan (Props Mistress), Brenda Caradine (Producer for TWT and TWT Board Chair), Claude Simpson (Set Construction), Ed Moody (Set Construction), and Christopher Blank (Set Construction) did a spectacular job of designing and creating a set that brings the audience into the house with Chicken (David Trotter), Myrtle (Cherri Golden), and Lot (Alex Orsak) as they manipulate to determine the heir to Ravenstock Plantation.

IMG_4871

David Trotter, as Chicken, played quite the interesting character...many viewers of the play says his character's personality varried from sexy to creepy in a matter of minutes. David kept everyone on the edge of their seats as he acted out his character, Chicken in complete and utter perfection.

David Trotter plays quite the interesting and complex character-Chicken…his character’s personality goes from sexy to creepy in a matter of minutes…seconds.  His dark humor, his loneliness, and his rejection by white society leaves the viewer straddling the fence of liking him and despising him.  David’s portrayal of Chicken is complete perfection.  Bravo! Bravo!

IMG_4866

Cherri Golden, as Myrtle, shows off her mad acting skills in the performance of Kingdom of Earth. “As the character of Myrtle, Cherri is now focusing on honoring her skills in whimpering, waffling, and screaming…” (TWT pamphlet) My most memorable moment of her magnificent acting skills is the scene where they talk about “washable velvet”! Cherri Golden’s performance as Myrtle was beyond breathtaking as she was able to transist through each scene with absolute ease.  At times, I found myself unable to catch my breath…and wondering if I should invest in some small appliances….

IMG_4873

Alex Orsak, as Lot, exposed a sense of peace to the intensity of the play.  His character is just as complex and dark as that of Chicken’s.  His weakness, his illness, his paleness are stark contrasts to the attributes of Chicken.  At first meeting, Lot seems to be a charming, sophisticated, and loving young man–full of innocence and dedication to his late mother.  As the play unfolds, the viewer loses faith in Lot…and begins to pity him for not his physical illness, but mental one.  Let me just say one thing without giving away the ending…the last few moments of the play grab’s the attention!  Alex’s portrayal of Lot is stellar.  Two thumbs up and five stars!

IMG_4805

You must see this play, VIP readers! It is so fabulous that I could watch it over and over again!  My goodness!  I must stop chatting about it, or I am just going to give the entire thing away….
