There is (almost) nothing better than oversized sweatshirts when the weather outside is frightfully chilly, and one of my favorite places to find unique sweatshirts is thrift and consignment shops. *gasp* SAY WHAT?! Yes–that’s right! You wouldn’t believe how many awesome sweatshirts I have found at various thrift stores in my life. In fact, MY FAVORITE sweatshirt ever came from a thrift store in Starkville, Mississippi for $1…ONE DOLLAR!
Now, to celebrate the dreadfully crazy winter storm that is headed this way, let’s warm up with three ways to wear thrifted sweatshirts + some epic throwbacks *wink*
Back before thrifting was a “cool thing to do,” I took just a few dollars a month and went to thrift shops in Starkville, Mississippi (not far from where I grew up) in search of vintage gems and clothing items to DIY. I found so many awesome things–some of which I still wear on the blog to this day. Now, at this time in my life when I told people that I was thrifting, they looked at me like I was “weird” or that it was “gross” to buy second-hand clothes…then Macklemore came out with a song that made thrifting popular among the “cool kids.” In fact, because of that song, thrifting almost became as cool as hanging out in the Sonic parking lot on Saturday nights *wink*
Now, this past weekend, I went thrifting around Johnson City, TN with my parents where we stumbled upon a small store called Thrift Shop at Boones Creek which benefits the Haven of Mercy Ministries. For only $10, I got two skirts (one leather–it’s currently at the dry cleaners), a sweatshirt, a blouse (with the tags still on it–score!), and two vintage necklaces. *GASP* Why can’t mall shopping be that budget-friendly?! I mean–this Weekly Whistle outfit only cost me $3, and it looks like something straight out of an Urban Outfitters catalog *wink*
Now, without further ado, take a look at this week’s Weekly Whistle and get your thrift on while I get my cuddle-buddy (Ziva–my precious Giant Schnauzer) and binge on Limitless (my latest TV show obession). Bring it on winter storms! *wink*
I am taking a quick break from color-staining my apartment patio to tell y’all about this week’s fabulously frugal find–a two-dollar, denim vest, which I found at a flea market in my hometown of Louisville, Mississippi. I absolutely could not pass this deal up because it has marvelous DIY potential!
Speaking of DIY potential….I have been racking my brain trying to decide how exactly I want to DIY my two-dollar vest. I already have a distressed one hanging in my closet from the first ever VIP DIY, and it would be a bit silly to repeat the same DIY tactics with another denim vest. Hm…what to do…what to do…
Well, readers, this patio isn’t going to stain itself, unfortunately *wink* So, I do not have time to ponder or wander the world wide web for denim vest DIY ideas. So, shoot me anemail, comment on this blog, or post a comment to Facebookwith YOUR nifty DIY ideas. I would love to hear them!
Thank goodness, it is Friday! Phew…it has been a long, stressful week–so, what better way to kick off the weekend than with a new VIP series! Whoo hoo!
Frugal Friday will be a weekly series featuring frugal outfit ideas, home decor, and great deals I find–it will always be a surprise! *wink*. Frugal Friday is all about fun, frugality and fabulousness–does it get any better than that?! *P.S. Oh, how I adore alliteration *wink*
For the very first Frugal Friday post, I shopped in my own closet and created a sweet, Southern style outfit that is perfect for Friday night bonfires…cute dinner dates…sassy square dancing…or even grocery shopping–that is what I did tonight while wearing this outfit *wink* Oh, yeah! Living on the wild side! *wink*
Now, as I snack on these delicious banana chips from Earth Fare, let’s take a look at the snazzy outfit details.
Today…it feels like spring has taken a spring break and left us with cold, windy, wintry weather…yuck. So, for this week’s Weekly Whistle outfit, I decided to embrace the chilly air with knee high socks and a hand knitted slouchy hat by Stephanie Grantham of Sparkle Cat Studio. (P.S. Notice that is the VIP blog colors *wink*)
