You might want to sing it for a note. Don’t worry, be happy! Oh, Bobby McFerrin I am very happy! Why? Well, it is time for Weekly Whistle, of course! Oh, Bobby, I am going to have to let you go…I have blog readers awaiting a post! Sing with you later!

Hello, hello, hello, fashionistas! Welcome back to the Vintage Inspired Passionista blog! It is that time of the week again…WEEKLY WHISTLE TIME! Yay! This week’s Weekly Whistle is all about a fabulous floral skirt that I fell in love with at first sight! So, without further ado, I present to you, the VIP’s favorite outfit of the week! *Applause*

Blouse: The Gap

Skirt: Target

Heels:  Belk, Jessica Simpson

  • MIX IT UP: Mixing patterns is a spectacular way to step up an outfit! Floral and polka dots play well together and give off a fun and spunky vibe!
  • WATERFALL OF PEARLS: Do not be afraid to layer different length pearl necklaces! Doing this will create a chic statement that is perfect for any vintage inspired ensemble! Pearls are like neutral heels, they go with everything!

  • PLAY IT UP: A flowy floral skirt does not always have to be dressy! Play it down with a fun graphic sweatshirt and vibrant hue knee high socks for a exciting and comfortable look!

VIP Interview: Deep South Pout

(from left to right) Bailey McCreary, Jackie Chasteen, and I at the Deep South Pout in Columbus, Mississippi! Aren’t they dressed so stylish!

Welcome back to the Vintage Inspired Passionista blog! I am very excited to share with y’all the special VIP Interview with the owners of Deep South Pout, Nicole Oswalt and Shannon Stoker!

This BluGertrude jewelry is so darling!

Deep South Pout has such adorable apparel, flirty and fierce statement jewelry, handmade hats and jewelry by BluGertrude, and much more! As soon as you walk through the doors, you will immediately spy a key piece that you must have! If you live around the Starkville or Columbus, Mississippi area,  hop in the car and pay a visit to Deep South Pout, and tell them the VIP sent you:)  If you live outside the area, take a weekend road trip to Starkville/Columbus, Mississippi.  There is plenty of good food and shopping!  Visit www.columbusms.org for wonderful things to do and places to go!

Let’s start this interview, shall we? I know y’all are dying to hear it!

1.  Tell us a little something about yourselves.

We (Shannon and Nicole) met in high school in Petal, Mississippi. We
re-connected at a high school reunion two years ago.

Shannon was a school teacher, and now lives in Starkville with her husband and son, Charley.  Nicole and her husband, Justin, live in Columbus with their two puppies. Before Deep South Pout, Nicole worked in corporate retail for several years.

2.  What inspired the name “Deep South Pout”?

When I (Nicole) was working at another boutique (before DSP), we went to New York City for market one weekend. I was amazed at how we Southern women stood out from the crowd. I wanted to incorporate that and to stay true to our roots. That’s where Deep South came from! And being from the Deep South, like most good Southern women, we wear lots of makeup ;) And “Pout” relating to your mouth, just made sense.

Check out this super cute outfit at Deep South Pout in Starkville, MS! Oh, how I am loving those patterned shorts!

3.  Describe Deep South Pout in five words.

Southern, Trendy, Affordable, Fun, & Unique.

4.  What influences Deep South Pout’s style?

We love the TV reality show Junk Gypsy (http://www.hgtv.com/junk-gypsies/show/index.html). We love how they find someone else’s junk and turn it into treasure!

5.  How is Deep South Pout involved with the community?

We love to give back to our community and to get involved with charity projects for those in need. One way we are doing this is by helping a local family fund their adoption of a little boy from Ethiopia. A percentage of our sales each month go toward their adoption fund. We love being able to support a good cause!

What a splendid, shabby glam display case for colorful tops at the Columbus location!

6. What are the top must-haves for fall at Deep South Pout?

We are so excited about our new fall trends! Check out our own blog post about it.  Visit  http://blog.deepsouthpout.com/?p=253 .

7. What is the one item in your closet you would never throw out?

My leopard print flats. Convenient, yet stylish!

It is jewelry heaven at both Deep South Pout locations! We girls love our accessories!

8. What is an easy “go-to” item to spice up any casual outfit effortlessly?

We love to throw on a blazer over jeans and basic t-shirt for an instant outfit upgrade! They are perfect for fall and come in lots of different colors and styles!

Boots, high heels, and stunning flats-oh, my! Which is a fashionista to choose! I’ll take one of each in a size eight, please and thank you! :)

9. What advice would you give to your younger self/selves?

I would say to embrace myself as I am; it’s way more fun that way!

Sweater Happy DIY: Take Two!

“Glory days, well, they’ll pass you by. Glory days, in the wink of a young girl’s eye. Glory days, glory days….We just sit around talking about the old times…she starts laughing, thinking about glory days…” Mhmm-Bruce Springsteen surely knows how to sing it! Glory days, oh, the wonderful glory days of summer! Don’t you wish our summer could be just a few months, weeks, even days longer? Sitting and relaxing by the pool, sipping on some ice cold, sweet tea-yes, those are the glory days of summer! It is so sad that it is over till next year, but who says we can’t make fall full of glory days-fashionable glory days! In this week’s adventure, I am going to show all you fashionistas out there how to make these chilly months full of fashionable glory!

Blazer: Vintage Ralph Lauren
Dress: Sweater Happy DIY
Socks: Target
Shoes: Michael Kors

Right now is the perfect time to head to your local thrift store or go shopping in your own closet for sweaters that need a little love.  This easy peasy, sweater cheesy DIY will show how to convert an old winter sweater into an adorable dress with vintage flare!

What you will need:

  • An oversized winter sweater
  • Scissors
  • Vintage buttons (or new buttons)
  • Needle
  • Thread

Step One:  Find some unique vintage or new buttons the same size as the original ones.  Remove the original buttons and sew on the vintage buttons to give your sweater dress a little VIP touch.

Step Two:  Next, it is time to cut off the sleeves. Measure one inch away from the seams of each sleeve and cut off each sleeve. Tah Dah! Done!

Seriously, done-completed-finished.  In just two steps, you have created a fabulous new staple piece for your closet.

Now, journey with me into the wonderful land of blazers, tights, and crew socks to see how you can make your Sweater Happy DIY a mega must have for your chilly season wardrobe!

I wore my Sweater Happy DIY with a sophisticated neutral blazer, preppy horizontal striped crew socks, and a pair of vibrant mustard yellow stilettos for a wonderful way to dress up and cozy up.  This ensemble was perfect for making a dramatic fashion statement and for grabbing some Starbucks with my girls before heading out for a road trip and shopping spree!  Make that one Venti, extra hot, Caramel Macchiato with extra foam, please!

VIP Tips on Wearing the Sweater Happy DIY:

  1. Classic Boots:  Sporting a traditional pair of classic knee high boots with this DIY dress is a super stylish way to step up your wardrobe!  When the temperatures start to drop more, toss on a vibrant hue blazer for an ensemble that is perfect for running errands around town while staying comfortable, adorable, and cozy!
  2. Sheer Tights:  Embrace sheer tights! Wear your dress DIY with a pair of stunning color block wedges and sheer tights for a striking combination that is a simple way to ace that dressy, yet casual gal look!  This outfit is perfect for a delicious brunch with clients!
  3. Iconic Denim:  Substitute in iconic denim for tights!  This DIY dress looks fantastic when worn over dark jeans and paired with sparkly, chunky jewelry!  Take this outfit to the next level by adding a uniform, fitted blazer and sexy t-straps with your DIY dress!  This outfit can be taken from comfy casual Friday to a Friday night party bash in a snap with just a change of accessories.

How did you dress up your Sweater Happy DIY?  Email me your ensemble combinations to vintage.passionista@gmail.com! I would love to include them in a future blog post!
