Lost, Crumbled, and Forgotten

Will I see him on the TV preachin’ ’bout the promised land
He tells me to believe in Jesus
And steals the money from my hand
Some say he was a good man
But Lord I think he sinned, yeahTwenty-two years of mental tears
Cries a suicidal Vietnam vet
Who fought a losing war on a foreign shore
To find his country didn’t want him back

Their bullets took his best friend in Saigon
Our lawyers took his wife and kids, no regrets
In a time I don’t remember, in a war he can’t forget
He cried “Forgive me for what I’ve done there
Cause I never meant the things I did”
And give me something to believe in if there’s a Lord above
And give me something to believe in Oh, Lord, ariseMy best friend died a lonely man
In some Palm Springs hotel room
I got the call last Christmas Eve
And they told me the news

I tried all night not to break down and cry
As the tears rolled down my face
I felt so cold and empty
Like a lost soul out of place
And the mirror, mirror on the wall sees my smile it fades again

Sometimes I wish to God I didn’t know now
The things I didn’t know then road you gotta take me homeI drive by the homeless sleeping on a cold dark street
Like bodies in an open grave
Underneath the broken old neon sign
That used to read JESUS SAVES

A mile away live the rich folks
And I see how they’re living it up
While the poor they eat from hand to mouth
The rich is drinkin’ from a golden cup

And it just makes me wonder why so many lose, so few win

You take the high road and I’ll take the low roadSometimes I wish to God I didn’t know now
The things I didn’t know then
And give me something to believe in

Something To Believe In: Poison

It was such an amazing experience to attend the Alpha Xi Delta UAB Scholarship Tea! Deciding on what college to attend is quite the challenge, but the amazing ladies of the Alpha Xi Delta chapter answered many of my questions about UAB campus life. Wow…hard to believe I turn eighteen in November, and go to college in a year….where has the time gone? Wait, that’s what my mom is supposed to say! :)

Check out the VIP Facebook page for more pictures from the Alpha Xi Delta Scholarship Tea!

Okie dokie, fashionistas! That seems to be all the time I have for today! Off to my closet, to style my outfit for an interview by The Cobalt Club tomorrow! Instead of my interviewing, I am being interviewed….Oh, looks like the tables have been turned! It is going to be so much fun–I absolutely cannot wait!

Vintage Inspired meets Vintage Hip

On my latest adventure, my mom and I were antiquing in Springville, Alabama when we stumbled upon a darling shop-Vintage Hip (open Wednesday-Saturday 10-6).

Vintage Hip got its start just a few months ago, but judging by the parking lot and constant flow of customers…the news about this charming, vintage-inspired shop is spreading!  Becky Coffelt and her daughter Hannah Cornelious dreamed it and started it…and let me say that Becky is most precious with lovely curly hair like mine!

Vintage Hip has so many wonderful, funky, charming, unique things to offer to lovers of art, vintage, upcycling, and handmade jewelry. Vintage Hip has handmade clay jewelry by Rebekah Blocher Designs from Alabama and upcycled bags by Raemissigman out of St. Cloud, Florida. They also offer repurposed vintage furniture, custom built furniture, and steller upcycled picture frames that just scream shabby chic!

As my mom and I walked around Vintage Hip in awe, we decided to pick up a few fabulous things before heading back to good ole’ Mississippi. We purchased an eye-catching folk art piece by Marion Baker of Blockhead Arts, “Man Hands Shop Scrub” organically made by Roman’s Marketplace which I added to my dad’s Birthday Bash Basket, and a darling Lenny and Eva bracelet for a certain arm candy obsessed fashionista …*cough, cough* ME!:)

Even if you don’t live near the Springville, Alabama area-you won’t regret a roadtrip just to visit Vintage Hip! It is such a strikingly fabulous shop that everyone must see! When you arrive…tell them the VIP sent you;)

Check out these links to see Vintage Hip, Blockhead Arts, Rebekah Blocher,  RaeMissigman, and Lenny and Eva!

The VIP’s New Do with Rachel Edmonds

If you live around the Starkville, MS area and are looking for a fantastic hair cut and color…then Rachel Edmonds is your girl!

Last week I got a bit of a hair makeover by the lovely Rachel Edmonds of Mia Salon in Starkville, Mississippi. It was a slight dramatic change…Rachel cut 5 inches off of my curly locks…I was a bit nervous, but the end result was super fabulous…I feel all bouncy and pouncy :)

I  had to share my ‘do makeover with all of my lovely readers.  I knew that it might be a shocker to see me in future blogs with much shorter hair without a background stroy!

The above picture was taken by my mom…bless her and her type 1 diabetes!  We had to hurry straight to lunch so she could eat before her “sugar” crashed…so my hair is still damp…but even a bit damp…it looks fantastic!  Thanks to a wonderful cut and color!

Fall Hair Tips by Rachel Edmonds:

  • After summer, hair is dry from all the summer sun…So, definitely moisturize and trim those ends.
  • Go with a caramel or beige color, if you are a blonde, and a warm, rich brown color, if you are a brunette.
  • Cute headbands and messy buns are stylish for fall!

Aren’t those tips great! And..isn’t Rachel just VIP fabulous!  Thanks, Rachel, you are a doll!

Join me next time for a spectacular blog about a fantastic new shop I ran across while antiquing and picking with my mom in Springville, Alabama! You will not want to miss this humdinger of a blog, I promise:)
