Weekly Whistle: Hippie at Heart

IMG_3728
Ever since I can remember, I have been head-over-heels for the hippie era of fashion. The wardrobe pieces, the accessories, the hair, and the makeup are all so effortless and elegant in this oddly-romantic, slightly-rebelling-against-tradition way. Oh, y’all–I’m telling you the flow and the funk is so empowering + I am a sucker for pieces with killer sleeves *wink*

So, for this week’s Weekly Whistle, I am throwing it back to the sixties and seventies with a little bell-sleeve and bell-bottom action. I absolutely adore this outfit because not only is it practical for my new #CampusLife *wink*, but it is also trendy and classic. When combined with the lariat necklace (worn as a headband) from Beauty In Stone, I feel like I just hopped in a fashionable time machine.

Now, without further ado, let’s take a look at this week’s Weekly Whistle + outfit details

Weekly Whistle: Vintage Vibes | 1970s Floral Dress from Greeneville, TN

IMG_2376

O. M. G. Y’ALL–

Look at this beauty of a vintage find I picked up on my first visit to Greeneville, Tennessee! It’s 1970s, great condition, funky floral, colorful…Oh, it’s perfect! SO perfect! *jumps up and down*

Okay–let me gather myself and be an adult for a second *deep breath*

My mom and I took a little trip to Greeneville last weekend and explored the downtown area. Inside a local antique shop, on the second floor, I stumbled upon this totally rad 70s dress tucked away on a clothes rack–sweltered by scary amounts of 1980s ruffles and rayon *wink* It was taxing to rescue this frock from the rack, but I did it…I did it *fist in air*

Once I got the dress home, I immediately planned a photo shoot. Major props to my awesomely talented dad for taking the amazing photos for this post ♥

Now, without further ado, take a look at this week’s Weekly Whistle below + details:

Weekly Whistle: Funky Fine Pair of (Vintage) Levi’s Jeans

IMG_1318

Lately, I have been listening to A LOT of 80s music–Genesis, ZZ Top, Bryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Joan Jett and the list goes on and on. So, naturally, I have been in like a totally rad, neon pink, acid wash and Miami Vice mood *said in my best Valley Girl voice*

When the winter storm hit last week and dumped about 9 inches of snow, my photographer and I took the opportunity to take some awesome outfit photos for the blog. As I was pulling items for the photoshoot, I stumbled upon a pair of funky fine (vintage) Levi’s *cue ZZ Top’s Cheap Sunglasses* that I had TOTALLY forgotten about.

In my 80s state of mind, I embraced the crazy, yellow acid-wash denim and decided to create a wearable wildcard outfit for this week’s Weekly Whistle. In the word’s of my photographer, “Wow…well, Abby–it sure it bright.” *wink*

Now, without further ado, get your 80s groove thang on and check out this week’s Weekly Whistle + outfit details! Also, be sure to pay special, close attention to the fabulous handmade bracelets!

Weekly Whistle: Mixing Patterns + Classic Style

20150812_163202

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

It is Wednesday…and y’all know what that means *wink* IT IS WEEKLY WHISTLE TIME!

For this week’s Weekly Whistle, I am mixing patterns with my new and STYLISH skirt from Style in downtown Bristol, Tennessee and a striped top from one of my favorite Mississippi boutiques. To add a classic twist to this mixed-pattern look, I decided to embrace a more vintage style by slipping into a pair of black Mary Jane heels, putting on a vintage-inspired hat, and tossing on some pearls (of course *wink*).

Now, without further ado, take a look at this week’s Weekly Whistle + be sure to come back tomorrow to see how to wear this groovy skirt 3 ways *wink*

Three Ways to Wear: Vintage Pink

IMG_9519

Hello, fabulouses, and welcome back to the blog!

Long before I became “the VIP”, I was pulling items from my closet and styling pieces multiple ways to give the impression that I “never wore the same thing twice”. I didn’t want my style to be trendy and disposable–I wanted it to be classy and reusable. Sure–I bought trendy/seasonal items that I later donated to the local Salvation Army, but I did not and never have “re-wardrobed” my closet after each season.

IMG_9515

I was always taught when you get something new, you donate or give away something else…but that it isn’t always easy for a clothes hoarder like myself *wink* So, I try to invest in really cool wardrobe pieces, and before purchasing, I ask myself, “Can I wear this more than one way? What about three ways?”. And thus…VIP Three Ways to Wear was born *wink*

For a little Throwback Thursday action, check out the VIP’s first Three Ways to Wear post here from February 2012 *gasp* That was such a long time ago…and man, was my hair long!

Now, without further ado, take a look at this week’s TWTWT to see how I styled the vintage gem from yesterday’s post.
