Weekly Whistle: Hippie at Heart

IMG_3728
Ever since I can remember, I have been head-over-heels for the hippie era of fashion. The wardrobe pieces, the accessories, the hair, and the makeup are all so effortless and elegant in this oddly-romantic, slightly-rebelling-against-tradition way. Oh, y’all–I’m telling you the flow and the funk is so empowering + I am a sucker for pieces with killer sleeves *wink*

So, for this week’s Weekly Whistle, I am throwing it back to the sixties and seventies with a little bell-sleeve and bell-bottom action. I absolutely adore this outfit because not only is it practical for my new #CampusLife *wink*, but it is also trendy and classic. When combined with the lariat necklace (worn as a headband) from Beauty In Stone, I feel like I just hopped in a fashionable time machine.

Now, without further ado, let’s take a look at this week’s Weekly Whistle + outfit details

Three Ways to Wear: Vintage-Inspired, Funky Dresses

IMG_3253

As I mentioned in yesterday’s Weekly Whistle, I am totally obsessed with these funky, vintage-inspired frocks! Because these dresses are such statement-makers, styling them multiple ways was quite the challenge, but y’all know the VIP–she doesn’t step down from a little fashion game *wink*

By mixing patterns and dressy with casual, I was able to create three new looks with two of my favorite dresses from Monkee’s of Johnson City. Check them out below + be sure to see yesterday’s Weekly Whistle and the VIP Instagram for more ways to wear these absolutely fabulous frocks ♥

VIP Tip:

When it comes to purchasing statement pieces, think of “unconventional” or “non-traditional” ways you can mix things up. An easy way to change up any statement dress is with different accessories–trying to add pops of un-thought-of colors or patterns with shoes and up-cycled, handmade jewelry.

Weekly Whistle: Funky Work Flow

IMG_2975

Sometimes, it is fun to dress head-to-toe in matchy-matchy outfits; however, I often like to think outside the box. From mixing leopard with flamingo to mixing  navy/white with bright mint and lime green–there is just something extremely satisfying about adding a little bit of funk to the everyday work-flow outfit! I get a little bit of adrenaline rush, ya know? *wink* Okay–so maybe, fashion is my addiction, and I have no shame–ZERO SHAME *wink*

For this week’s Weekly Whistle, I styled this funky work-flow ensemble that is not only great for the office and running errands, but it is also great for catching a bite to eat after the work is done–no changing, no extra accessories, no worries *hands in air* So, without further ado, let’s take a look at this week’s absolutely smashing outfit of the week ♥

Weekly Whistle: 2 Vintage-Inspired Ways to Wear Army Green

IMG_2229

Ahh…vintage-inspired–my favorite! Who would have guessed that *wink*

At the mall the other day, I stumbled upon this army green beauty on the sale rack at Charming Charlie for 50% off. In love with the deal and vintage flare, I had to get it! But upon getting it home, I asked myself, what in the world am I going to do with a dark green dress this spring/summer?!

Well, good thing I asked myself *wink* Although the solid frock is a little plain, it can easily be dressed up or down with the right accessories! Now, I think we need some tunes to get us in the mood for this fabulous outfit–HIT IT DJ! *wink*

Why I love it:

I love this little green dress because it is so versatile! Whether it be a night out on the town or lunch with friends, no matter the time of year, I can see this dress becoming one of my staple frocks! PLUS…I got it for a heck of a deal *wink*

VIP Quick Tip:

When wearing darker hues in the spring, it is important to add color with accessories. Slip on a colorful belt and fun pair of heels or opt for silver jewelry instead of gold because gold tends to be more fall-esque when worn with army green. Also, when dressing up army green for an evening event, layer black and sparkly/silver jewelry for an elegant yet season-friendly ensemble.
